Spring Cleaning Tips From Jimmy Zechello

Jimmy Zechello of "James Zechello Professional Cleaning of Stoughton" offers common sense advice for keeping your home sparkling clean.

Jimmy Zechello of “James Zechello Professional Cleaning of Stoughton” has helped keep homes in Eastern Massachusetts sparkling for 44 years. He specializes in working with floors, carpets, windows and marble.

Question: What tips do you have for the cleaning of wood floors?

Jimmy Zechello: Spray a white towel with a window cleaner and then wrap it around a sponge mop. Do not use water. The window cleaner will evaporate whereas the water will not, and the water will leave a residue.

Q: What tips do you have for cleaning shower stalls?

JZ: After you shower, take your towel and wipe down the tub. This will take out the moisture. If the area stays wet, iron will build up and cause water spots. Then leave the door open to let the room air out. Don’t trap the moisture. Every once in a while put the soap racks in the dishwasher.

Q: What about carpet stains?

JZ: Use warm water and Palmolive Liquid. Take a white towel and blot the area. This will neutralize the stain so that it won’t impregnate the material.

Q: How about kitchen cabinets?

JZ: Think about doing a small section at a time, rather than every cabinet, which is emotional and daunting. Use a white towel (wet it sparingly with warm water) and spray on some ammonia. Work on a small area of the cabinet like the facing. Use a bristle toothbrush for the handles. Wipe it all down with a damp cloth afterwards.

Q: Who’s the enemy?

JZ: The build up of iron and detergent (and the mixture of bleach and ammonia).

Q: What’s the best advice for a spotless house?

JZ: Invest in the white hand towel. Paper towels shred. Sponges don’t get into the grooves. The white hand towel does the trick every time.
