Stoughton's 9 National Baseball Team Wins Hockomock Summer League Championship

The Stoughton 9-year-old National Hockomock Summer League baseball team beat Attleboro in the finals Friday evening, capturing the league title.

Editor's Note: Stoughton had four baseball teams advance to the Championship game in their respective divisions this season - 9 American, 9 National, 13 American and 14/15 National. Both the 9 National and 14/15 National teams won their single-elimination final played Friday night, July 27. Below is a recap of the Stoughton 9-year-old National team's championship win.

The 9-Year-Old Stoughton Nationals posted an overall record of 12-2-1 this summer, beating Attleboro, 8-7, Friday night in Easton to win the baseball championship.

Stoughton finished the regular season 9-2-1, the second-seeded team heading into the playoffs. Stoughton beat Easton, 5-4, and Franklin, 11-1, to advance to the finals.

In the championship, Attleboro jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Stoughton boys maintained their composure and eventually chipped away, taking a 7-4 advantage through timely hitting, solid defense, and strong pitching. 

But, Attleboro then rallied in the fifth inning to tie the game at 7. 

The Stoughton boys maintained their focus and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth through a double and sacrifice bunt, with the lead run scoring from second on the bunt and the ensuing throw to first. 

Stoughton then shut down Attleboro in the sixth inning with solid pitching and defense, closing out the dramatic and historic victory.

Players include: Stephen Bangs (P/SS/OF), Brady Conlin (P/1B/OF), Bobby Genereux (C/OF), Cameron Kast (P/SS/OF), James Murphy (1B/SS/OF), Matthew O’Halloran (P/2B/OF), Clayton Rahaman (C/OF), Tommy Sanda (C/3B/OF), Matthew Snyder (P/1B/OF), Jack Turano (2B/OF), Justin Wells (P/1B/OF) and Sean Worsley (P/3B/OF).

The team was coached by Chris O’Halloran (manager), John Bangs (Assistant Coach), Jim Murphy (Assistant Coach) and Guy Kast (Bench Coach).
