Stoughton House of Brews to Bring Coffee, Spirits, Ambience to Downtown

Billed as "your neighborhood coffeehouse and tavern," the Stoughton House of Brews, which is located at 28 Porter Street in the downtown, is planning a soft opening Thursday morning.

After getting initial approval to operate back in November of 2011, husband and wife team Leo and Sandra Fay of Stoughton have spent the last year and a half renovating the former Porter Street Pub.

The Fays described the Stoughton House of Brews as a Cambridge-style cafe with a "small town flair." It will have a "comfy, cozy" atmosphere, like you were "sitting in somebody's living room."

In the mornings patrons can enjoy fair trade organic coffee, as well as muffins, pastries, fruit cups, and home-baked breads.

In the evenings, the coffee shop becomes a tavern, with a wide variety of liquor including local craft beers, wines, single malts, and cognacs. There will also be appetizers like chicken wings, sliders, meatballs and cheese and cracker trays, as well as coffee, cappuccino and dessert.

The Fays appeared before the Stoughton Board of Selectmen Tuesday night to get the thumbs up for an entertainment license, which selectmen unanimously approved, 4-0.

The Fays plan on having live acoustic style music playing in the background in the evenings (they stress at a low volume, so people can still have a conversation...in fact, they own the instruments, so they can control the volume).

The Stoughton House of Brews will be open this Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. for a soft opening.

Once up and running, full time hours will be 6-11 a.m. each morning and 5-11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday evenings, and 5 p.m. until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
