Of the 17 displaced in the May 1 fire on Park St., five are students in the Stoughton Public Schools (SHS, OMS and Dawe). Donations are being collected at Stoughton High and at the O'Donnell Middle School, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rizzi said.

Rabbi Jonathan Hausman of Ahavath Torah Congregation is hoping the community will donate to the three generations of the Cooper family living in the Winfisky Drive house that was totally destroyed by the fire. A Stoughton home on Winfisky Dr. is deemed a “total loss” by Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff after a heavy fire damaged the structure Saturday afternoon. The fire started at 2:01 p.m. at 49 Winfisky Dr., located in a neighborhood off Bay Rd in Stoughton. Stoughton, along with four other nearby towns responded to the scene. A total of six people live in the home. All five residents home at the time of the fire were able to make it out safely, as were the family’s four dogs. The home is owned by Andrea Cooper, a social worker with the Norfolk County Sherriff’s Department. Stoughton Police and Fire responded to a conveyor belt fire in the backyard of Selectman Cynthia Walsh’s Park St. property Sunday night. There were no injuries reported and there was no damage to the house on the property.
In what Selectman Cynthia Walsh described as a “close call,” a conveyor belt caught on fire Sunday night behind her Park St. home, but there was no damage to the home and there were no injuries reported. The Stoughton Police and Fire Departments responded to Walsh’s 1096 Park St. home at 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, Deputy Chief Scott Breen said. The conveyor belt, used to carry wood from a wood splitter to a truck, caught on fire underneath a canopy with a tin roof and wooden posts. There was damage to the conveyor itself, as well as to the wooden posts, Breen said. He said the “biggest risk” was the fire possibly spreading to a nearby pile of wood in the backyard.
