Howard A. Churchill

1:24 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2013

My father (Ken Churchill) drew up the plans for that house across the driveway (Churchill Ave) from where I grew up. My father and Uncle Richard built that house from the ground up --- even dug the cellar. What a loss --- but as one of my friends said to me --- at least Uncle Richard and my father are not still alive to see this. I am so sadenned. Love to all, Uncle Howard.   more ›

Dumpster Fire Fills Parts of Stoughton High with Smoke

Monday afternoon's dumpster fire took almost two hours to extinguish.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. on July 16 at the dumpster behind the D-Building of Stoughton High, near the greenhouse on the D1 Science wing. The dumpster is located near the SHS outdoor track. A typical dumpster fire is out pretty quickly, Harding said, but this fire took about two hours to wet down and extinguish, Stoughton Fire Captain Scott Breen said. The flames reached about 10 feet above the dumpster, with smoke billowing above that and around the area. Just a couple of minutes after the fire started, smoke filled parts of the school. …

Location of Park St. Fire in Stoughton Presents Ironic Twist

Stoughton firefighters were well-prepared for the May 1 fire at 34/36 Park St. since thousands of firefighters statewide have actually fought a computer-based simulated fire at this exact location during training sessions at the MA Fire Academy.

A repairman fixing a basement furnace notices a problem and calls 911.  The fire department arrives on scene within minutes and pulls up to see large amounts of dark smoke pouring out of the roof. The fire, which was not even visible at the time of the call, has spread from the basement to the third floor of the multi-unit home in a matter of moments. Some Stoughton Firefighters who fought this blaze, the “34 Park Street Fire,” admit to making mistakes.  In fact, there is one, Lieutenant Jay McNamara, who is actually glad he made mistakes at that fire. That’s because the fire they battled took place in a trailer and was computer simulated. The “sim-trailer” at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow is, as Captain Don Jasmin calls it, “the …
