TOWN MANAGER AND SELECTMAN CHAIRMAN EXPECTED TO SIGN SOI'S NEXT WEEK: Stoughton School Committee member Deborah Sovinee was concerned that the municipal officials hadn't signed the Statement of Interests for building a new Stoughton High School and new South Elementary School, which were passed unanimously on November 1st, by both the School Committee and Selectmen. These SOIs would put Stoughton into the mix for possible state funding down the road for the High School and the South School. Sovinee, in part, wrote to a few media outlets on Tuesday regarding the difficulty of getting signatures from Selectman Chairman John Stagnone and Town Manager Frank Crimmins. The statements need to be signed by the chairs of both the Board of Selectmen…

The Schools will be drafting a statement of interest declaring their desire to rebuild Stoughton High School and the South School. But, the Board of Selectmen will have to approve the statement before it's submitted to the Mass. School Building Authority.
The Stoughton Public Schools' Feasibility Committee urged the town to take the initial step in the process of replacing two aging schools in Stoughton—Stoughton High School and the South Elementary School. The Feasibility Committee told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night that they recommend no additional money be spent on repairs for Stoughton High or for the South School, except in emergency situations. The Committee concluded that both buildings needed to be rebuilt. The first step in the potential rebuilding process is to declare the desire to pursue building new schools by filing a statement of interest (SOI) with the Massachusetts School …

The South School Improvement Plan presented to the School Committee.
Each elementary school, the middle school and the high school presented a “School Improvement Plan” to the Stoughton School Committee over the past three school committee meetings. The following is the text of a speech delivered as part of a keynote address at the South Elementary School Fifth Grade Class Night on June 21, 2011.
Editor's Note: The following is the text of a speech delivered as part of a keynote address at the South Elementary School Fifth Grade Class Night on June 21, 2011. While intended for the graduating fifth grade class at the South, it is applicable for all soon-to-be sixth graders in Stoughton. Some parts of the speech are also applicable for all graduates, of any age. *** I want you to think back to September of 2005—when you were in kindergarten. You were starting your journey through the Stoughton Public Schools. And, at the same time, as a senior at Stoughton High, I was beginning the end of mine. Picture it—The bus stops, opens its doors, and you literally climb up on to it—your legs are too short to gracefully ascend the steps. But …

You are correct that Charms left for a at least a year if not two but they did return this year, though not with classrooms but administrative offices if I have heard correctly. They do have vans in the parking lot so I guess I cannot say definitively that there are no classrooms. I am curious when you last saw this building. I am referencing what I saw when I dropped off my son last Friday. …   more ›
