Typically, when the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments trade in their guns and hoses for hockey skates they are on opposing teams, but this past Saturday, the SPD and SFD joined forces at the Metropolis (Ponkapoag) Ice Rink in Canton for the Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit. Members of the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments played on a split-squad team against the Randolph Police and Fire Departments. That game was followed by the Canton Police and Fire Departments taking on the Boston Police. Randolph and Boston both skated to victory. The Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit, played March 9 in Canton, will aid the family of Canton Police Officer Ralph Centeno, who recently passed away.
While later this month they will go head-to-head in the annual Guns 'N Hoses hockey game, the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments are joining forces this upcoming weekend to help the family of a fellow first responder. On Saturday, March 9, the Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit will take place at the Metropolis (Ponkapoag) Ice Rink at 2167 Washington St./Route 138 in Canton at 8 p.m. All proceeds from this year's event will go to the family of Canton Police Officer Rafael Centeno, who recently passed away. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door. The benefit will include a chuck-a-puck contest, auction items, raffles, a live DJ and prizes. Randolph firefighters helped a Stoughton woman deliver a baby girl at the Randolph Fire Station Wednesday morning.
A Stoughton woman in labor ended up giving birth to a baby girl at Randolph's main fire station Wednesday morning, WCVB.com reports. The woman's husband was driving her to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, but the new mom's labor pains were so severe that the husband didn't think they would make it to the hospital before the baby was born so the couple stopped at the Randolph fire station, Randolph Firefighter Steve Glassman said, according to WCVB.com. A group of seven Randolph firefighters helped the mom with the delivery, which went smoothly, according to WCVB.com. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured when his 18-wheeler carrying stainless steel rolled over just before getting on Route 24 northbound in Stoughton Monday afternoon.
A tractor trailer rolled over on the on-ramp to Route 24 northbound from the Route 139 overpass in Stoughton Monday around 3:30 p.m., Captain James Hurley of the Randolph Fire Department said. The 18-wheeler was coming from Stoughton, traveling on Route 139, and then got on the on-ramp to Route 24 north. The vehicle rolled over onto its side about 20-30 feet before the end of the on-ramp, Hurley said. The driver, a male from Pennsylvania, was not injured. With the driver's side of the tractor trailer facing the ground after it rolled over, the driver exited the vehicle by climbing out of the passenger's side door, Hurley said.
