Scholarship Established in Memory of Stoughton High Senior David Wade The Stoughton School Committee unanimously approved the David James Wade Memorial Scholarship at its meeting Feb. 12. Wade, a senior at Stoughton High this school year, tragically died following an accidental shooting at his Turnpike Street home Sept. 29, 2012. The scholarship will give 10 of his former classmates financial assistance in continuing their education beyond high school. Each of the 10 scholarships will be for $560, symbolic of Wade's football jersey number (56) this season at SHS. STOUGHTON MAN GETS TOP NORTON SCHOOL POSITION: Former Stoughton School Committee member Joseph Baeta is the new Superintendent of Schools for the Town of Norton. The Norton School Committee unanimously voted for Baeta become the new Norton school chief at a January 10 meeting. Baeta, who is in his fourth year as Superintendent of Schools in Holbrook, said that he left that system in much better shape than when he took it over. This new job in Norton is a good fit for him in a number of ways. His wife, Michele, was a Guidance Counselor in Norton, but came home the past five years to take care of their daughter, Maggie.  Since Maggie is now at the Hansen Elementary School in Stoughton, his wife returned to Norton Public Schools as a part …

Shoplifting Leads to Arrest of Stoughton and Canton Residents On Saturday, Dec. 29 Norwood Police arrested 36-year-old Christin Quattrucci of Hayward Dr. in Stoughton and 49-year-old Ergin Abaz of Fairview Rd. in Canton. Norwood Police Dispatch received a call reporting that the two were observed shoplifting at the Norwood T.J. Maxx on Nahatan Street. It was reported to the responding officers Chris Flanagan and Jared Kullich that the suspects were removing security tags from the merchandise. On scene officers spoke with the two that were still inside the store. 90-Year-Old Driver Charged With Hit and Run The driver involved in the Dec. 8 hit and run on Park Street in Stoughton, which sent a teenage boy to the hospital, has been charged, the Stoughton Police announced in a release on the Department's Facebook page Wednesday morning. Harry Minassian, 90, of 433 Lincoln St. in Stoughton, is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury; failure to stay in marked lanes; leaving the scene of property damage; and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the release. Norton Parents Get Special Delivery on 12/12/12 When Erin Fisher went into labor Dec. 12, she expected it to go well into the next day. Newborn Wesley Scott Fisher was determined to make his birthday an extra special day, however, arriving at exactly 12:12 p.m. Dec. 12, 2012. “We are both doing very well and are going home today,” Erin said. She has lived in Norton for the past five years with her husband Scott. Wesley, named after Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, was born at 6 lbs., 8 oz. at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Norfolk County DA Rules Stoughton Teen's Shooting Death Accidental The September 29th shooting which killed Stoughton High senior David Wade, long understood to be an accident, has officially been ruled as such, the office of Norfolk Country District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced in a press release Friday afternoon. Wade, 17, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at his Turnpike St. home. He was accidentally shot by his 21-year-old brother. Stoughton Student from Southeastern Regional Getting Hands-on Construction Experience

A Stoughton student is among six from Southeastern Regional getting hands-on experience participating in a construction project building a concession stand at a local high school.

Thanks to the work of six Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School students, including one from Stoughton, a local high school will get a new concession stand by its football field this winter. It’s a win-win situation as the students get hands-on experience in the field of construction. The students building the concession stand at Norton High School are Thomas Hanrahan of Stoughton, Richard Alger of Easton, and Brockton residents Luis Montero, Julien Fernandes, Joe Gallagher and Cody Howie. They are directed by construction technology teacher Roy Blanchard. Since mid-September, the group has spent about 15 hours a week working on the project. “They are really focused,” Blanchard said of the students. When the basic skeleton…

State Police Make Several OUI Arrests Over Holiday Weekend Massachusetts State Police Troopers made 20 OUI arrests and issued almost 350 citations on area roadways this holiday weekend - the result of increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 and a sobriety checkpoint in Canton, according to a press release from the MSP. The State Police deployed increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 in southeastern Massachusetts, the evenings of Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 as "part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving on those roads," the MSP stated in a press release. Woman Allegedly Sexually Assaulted at Knifepoint in Attleboro Local and state police are looking for a man they say kidnapped a woman at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her Tuesday afternoon in an Attleboro parking lot on Starkey Avenue.
