Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Falls Short of Clinching Postseason Berth

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team lost to Walpole 76-64 Monday night in the season finale, finishing the year with a record of 9-11, one win short of qualifying for the postseason.

Needing a win in order to qualify for the postseason, the Stoughton High boys' basketball team looked well on its way following a strong first half of play at Walpole Monday night. The Black Knights shot 53.3 percent (16 for 30), holding a 38-26 lead after two quarters in the finals of the Walpole Hoop Classic. Walpole, meanwhile, shot just 34.5 percent (10 for 29) in the first half, as Stoughton twice led by as many as 16-points.  The second half featured a complete reversal, however, with Walpole heating up, shooting 60 percent (15 for 25), in addition to making 16 of 19 second half free throw attempts. We'll see you Monday night. The Stoughton High boys' basketball team lives another day as they improved to 9-10 on the season with a 63-52 over Boston Latin Academy in the opening round of the Walpole Hoop Classic Sunday night at Walpole High.  With the win, Stoughton will play host Walpole Monday night for a chance to clinch a berth in the MIAA state tournament. Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Bounces Back at Walpole

The Black Knights (16-4) end the regular season with a 57-40 win at Walpole in the consolation game of the Walpole Hoop Classic. Stoughton will find out its postseason matchup on Friday.

The Stoughton High boys’ varsity basketball team started strong and finished strong Monday evening, beating Walpole 57-40 in the consolation game of the Walpole Hoop Classic at Walpole High. The Black Knights (16-4) end the regular season on a high note, rebounding after losing back-to-back contests to Franklin and Needham in their two previous games. “Losing is never a good thing, but you learn from it,” Aaron Calixte said. Stoughton started the game on a 16-2 run and ended on a 16-3 run, but in the middle, Walpole made things interesting. After taking a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 28-16 lead at the half, Walpole cut Stoughton’s lead to just six, 39-33, heading into the fourth. Walpole’s Johnny Adams fed Tim Merrigan …
