Eighth graders from the OMS interviewed 19 veterans and then shared their stories with their classmates during the middle school’s annual eighth grade Veterans Day assembly, held Nov. 10.
Of the 19 veterans, men and women alike, who visited with eighth graders at the O’Donnell Middle School last week, some were drafted, others enlisted as a way to pay for college, while others saw military service as a way to travel the world. TWO BRAVE RESIDENTS HONORED: Veteran's Day 2011 (on 11/11/11) was a special day in the Town of Stoughton. Veteran's Agent Mike Pazyra had a great day planned, and it came together perfectly--with even Mother Nature cooperating. Following the annual Veterans Day Parade Friday morning, two squares were dedicated in memory of two Stoughton veterans Friday afternoon. The intersection of Taxiera Road and School Street was dedicated to Albert A. Jardin. His widow Marie Jardin, her four children, her nine grandchildren, and her four great grandchildren were there as part of a large crowd. Retired Fire Chiefs Ed Carroll and David Jardin (Albert's nephew) attended, as did Stoughton's current police and fire chief, and a number of brass from the …

Photos from Stoughton’s 2011 Veterans’ Day Parade.
Veterans Day is “a day to honor all who served in wartime or peacetime,” Stoughton’s Veterans Agent Mike Pazyra told a crowd of spectators at Town Hall during Friday’s Veterans Day Parade. “It’s largely a day to honor living veterans.” And on Friday, Stoughton honored its quintessential veteran—Charlie Large. “Every community has a veteran who’s the well-known veteran in the community,” Pazyra told the crowd. In Stoughton, “Charlie is that guy,” Pazyra said, noting the World War II veteran is “Stoughton’s face of the greatest generation.” Large, who has been battling health problems as of late, was present for Friday’s parade to announce the roll call of Stoughton’s fallen soldiers. Large was also honored at the Town Hall ceremony, …
