A list of those Stoughton residents killed in action while serving this country in war.
Memorial Day is a holiday designated to pay tribute to the men and women in the military who died while serving this country. The following is a list of Stoughton residents killed while serving in the American Revolution, the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. The Civil War claimed the most Stoughton soldiers (84), while 28 from Stoughton died while serving during World War II. The names of these residents are on a monument at Faxon Park. There are about 150 names on the monument. The names of those killed from World War I to the present are read aloud during the Veterans' Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. STOUGHTON SALUTES ITS VETERANS: The Veterans Day Parade began exactly at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 11 from VFW Post 1645 on Washington Street. The Town Hall ceremony started about 15 minutes later, and featured the patriotic music of the award-winning Stoughton High School Marching Band, an excellent speech by Stoughton Veterans Agent and Vietnam Veteran Mike Pazyra, and a wreath laying at the Memorial Bell. Of course, there was also the reading of the names of every Stoughton soldier who gave their lives for their country in America's wars. World War II veteran Charlie Large, who has been reading the names for many years, is ailing and living in a Norwood nursing facility. Stepping in was retired Veterans Agent and Vietnam Vet Paul …

Take a look at our photo gallery from Stoughton's annual Veterans Day Parade, held Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. The parade started at the VFW Hall, making its way up Washington St. through the downtown and to the Town Hall via School St. for a ceremony at the Memorial Bell. The parade then continued from Town Hall to Faxon Park for two additional ceremonies before ending at the VFW. The parade, run by Veterans Agent Mike Pazyra, featured town officials, the Stoughton Fire and Police Department, members of the VFW, members of the 12th MA Volunteer Infantry, and the Stoughton High marching band. Veterans Day observed: What's open and closed in Stoughton on Monday, November 12.
Veterans Day, held each year on Nov. 11, is a holiday to honor the men and women who have served this country in the Armed Forces. To read more about the history of the holiday, click here. Where Veterans Day fell on a Sunday this year, it will be observed Monday, Nov. 12. Here's the list of what is open and closed in most states this holiday: Open: Closed: No Trash Pickup on Veterans Day in Stoughton On Monday, Nov. 12, there will be no curbside trash collection in observance of Veterans Day. Trash collection for Veterans Day will be scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13, in addition to the regular Tuesday collection. This is standard procedure for any holiday. The parade will proceed through the square to the Stoughton Town Hall via Washington, School and Pearl Streets for a ceremony and wreath laying at the Memorial Bell. The parade will then reform on Pearl Street and proceed back through the square to Faxon Veterans Memorial Park (across from the library near the Charles Large Gazebo) for two ceremonies at the two memorials there. The parade will then proceed down Walnut Street to Washington Street and go back to the VFW for a collation. The entire parade will be approximately one and one-half hours. Come and watch …

Eighth graders from the OMS interviewed 19 veterans and then shared their stories with their classmates during the middle school’s annual eighth grade Veterans Day assembly, held Nov. 10.
Of the 19 veterans, men and women alike, who visited with eighth graders at the O’Donnell Middle School last week, some were drafted, others enlisted as a way to pay for college, while others saw military service as a way to travel the world. Yet, no matter their reason for joining the military, they all served their country with distinction. Collectively, these group of veterans spanned every branch of the Armed Forces and represented this country in every war and conflict from World War II to the present day missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each veteran was paired with an eighth grader for an interview last Thursday morning at the OMS. Then, in what has become an annual Veterans Day assembly for the eighth grade, these student …
