Needless to say, Valentine's Day is a popular holiday for couples everywhere. The day offers a chance for couples to take a breather from the daily grind and head out for a romantic evening, or, alternatively, enjoy a romantic evening at home. But what about those who aren't in a committed relationship? As it turns out, a recent singles study indicates that first dates on or around Feb. 14 are actually on the rise. In fact, more than 2,400 Boston men are going as far as paying women for a first date on Valentine's Day, according to the study, conducted by dating-auction website WhatsYourPrice.com. Meet Stoughton residents Tony and Millie Gareri, married 50 years and counting.
Sitting in their Central Street home Monday morning, Tony and Millie Gareri told tales of their wedded bliss, just about a mile from where their relationship started, more than 50 years ago. The longtime married Stoughton residents, proud parents of four grown men and seven grandchildren, met at a mutual friends house on Holbrook Avenue in the late 1950s. Millie, now 70, was a sophomore in high school at the time. Tony, now 71, was a junior. “I liked her looks. I liked her personality. She was fun loving and we seemed to get along pretty well,” Tony said. “She put up with all my antics.” The two started dating, going to movies, bowling and socializing at the old Stoughton Diner. I went on a first date this valentines day. It went surprisingly well and I didn't feel much pressure once we started talking. We went to a sports bar. I picked The place. We ended up being the last ones to leave! We had great conversation and he brought me flowers and paid for dinner. Needless to say we are seeing eachother again sometime this week. :)   more ›
