UMass Amherst Community Remembers Stoughton's Jake Hoffman

UMass Amherst student Jake Hoffman, 21, of Stoughton, died in a fire the morning of Jan. 21 at an off-campus apartment building in Amherst. Classmates remember Hoffman in a tribute article which ran in the Massachusetts Daily Collegian.

Like those who knew him in Stoughton, his classmates at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst remembered Stoughton's Jake Hoffman for his "contagious smile" and "charismatic personality." “He had the biggest smile. As soon as he walked into the room, he made everyone a little bit happier,” friend and fellow UMass Amherst student Jay Palermo told the Massachusetts Daily Collegian. The Daily Collegian, an independent student newspaper at UMass Amherst, ran a tribute article to Hoffman on Feb. 4. Hoffman, 21, of Stoughton, was identified as the UMass Amherst college student who died in an early morning fire in an off-campus apartment building in Amherst Jan. 21. Funeral for Jake Hoffman, 21, of Stoughton, to be Held Saturday

The following is the obituary for Jake Hoffman, 21, of Stoughton, who died after being caught in an apartment fire Jan. 21 in Amherst, MA. Funeral will be held Saturday at St. James Church, while visiting hours will be held Friday at Farley Funeral Home.

The following obituary is from the Farley Funeral Home website: James E. "Jake" Hoffman, 21, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 in Amherst, MA after being caught in an apartment fire. He was the beloved son of David M. and Anne (Morrissey) Hoffman of Stoughton. Born in Stoughton, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 2009. In addition to his parents, Jake is survived by his sister Nichole C. Hoffman and his brother Riordan J. A. Hoffman both of Stoughton. He was the grandson of Dorothy (Hannaway) Hoffman of Stoughton and the late Edward Hoffman, James J. Morrissey and Bernice (Hill) Morrissey. He was the great grandson of Edward C. Hoffman of Canton.
