A Train Station in Decay?

Recent pictures from Stoughton's historic train station show it is in need of some repairs.

Constructed from local quarried granite from the Myron Gilbert quarries off West Street, the Stoughton Train Station opened in 1888 and has been a landmark in Stoughton Center for more than a century. The station was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. But recent pictures of the train station show parts of it are in decay, while others are inhabited by flocks of pigeons. "The train shed that protects the passengers who pay a train pass of $186 a month and $4 a day to park is collapsing and rotting away," Patch Columnist David Allen Lambert wrote in an email.  "I wish some of this money would be set aside to preserve this 123 year old landmark." I bet some builder would hop on the chance to buy the train station & convert it to 40B housing. What the heck, they all take the train into Stoughton anyway. Why not make it easier for them. They can live there during the week & go back to the city for their weekend fun.   more ›
