Hockomock Football Recap: Thanksgiving Upsets, Comebacks, Blowouts and Nail-Biters

A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.

If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Stoughton High Football Goes for 3-0 Start in Home Opener vs. Pembroke

After starting the season with road wins at Holliston and at Taunton, the Stoughton High Football team returns home for its opener, hosting Pembroke, a Division 3 playoff team from a year ago. The game is Friday at 7 p.m.

With the Stoughton High football team's 22-0 win over Taunton last Friday, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Friday's contest, the home-opener against Pembroke at 7 p.m. 1. Quarterback play - After throwing the ball just four times at Holliston, senior quarterback Danny Eckler was 5/8 for 134 yards and a touchdown at Taunton, showing his ability to find the open man and light up the opponent's defense, gaining huge chunks of yardage at a time. Eckler had big completions to Aaron Mack and Andrew Valle gaining 66 and 35 yards respectively. 2. Offensive line - The Black Knight offensive line had another big day against Taunton drawing numerous offsides penalties. Coach Greg Burke also…

Entering the tough part of the season, hope the momentum continues. My main concern has to do with Pembroke's coach. Bob Bancroft, who I know well, very successful and capable coach. Whitman Hansen was a consistent winner under his tutilage. Took a weak Pembroke program, and, in just a few years has brought them into contention. That said, if the players worked hard this week and follow the …   more ›

Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Stoughton High Football Past Taunton

The Stoughton High football team improves to 2-0 on the young season following a 22-0 win Friday on the road. Fourteen of the team's 22 points were scored in the fourth quarter. Take a look at photos from the game in the media gallery.

While the Stoughton High football team had outplayed Taunton for the first three quarters of Friday's contest, the Black Knights only carried a 6-0 lead into the final 11 minutes of play, unable to break the game open. Two Taunton turnovers in the fourth quarter changed that however, as the Black Knights capitalized on the Tiger miscues, pulling away for a 22-0 road win to start the season 2-0. Meanwhile Taunton, the Hockomock league's newest member, falls to 0-2. Down by six, Taunton had possession to start the fourth and was driving, looking for a potential game-tying score. But about three minutes into the fourth, Stoughton's Aaron Mack recovered a fumble at the Stoughton 34-yard line, one of six turnovers the Stoughton defense forced …

After Strong Start to Season at Holliston, Stoughton High Football Looks to Top Taunton Tigers

Led by strong play by the defense, offensive line and trio of running backs in its season-opening win, the Stoughton High football team looks for a 2-0 start this Friday afternoon at Taunton.

With the Stoughton High football team's 28-13 win at Holliston last Friday in the season opener, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Friday's contest at Taunton at 4 p.m. 1. Running game- Stoughton's offense was charged by running backs Frankie Morris, Aaron Mack, and Malachi Baugh. The trio accounted for three of the four Stoughton touchdowns and had some huge plays including Mack breaking a 30-yard run on his first carry of the season. Morris carried the heavy load and played tough, in your face football, where Mack and Baugh were the play makers picking up chunks of yards at a time. 2. Offensive line - Stoughton's offensive line led by captain Adam Leonard center drew a four …
