STOUGHTON POLICE GET EDUCATION ON CHILD EXPLOITATION: Three Stoughton Police Detectives joined Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey recently as the Norfolk Advocates for Children, the DA and dozens of local police and service agencies launched a joint effort to combat the recruiting and selling of young girls for sex in this region. “The internet has taken what was, years ago, thought of as an urban problem and made it an everywhere problem,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “We need a coordinated, thoughtful effort to combat it and help these children…the most common age that girls are being drawn into the commercial sex trade and sold is now middle school. Greg Swartz, 50, paced the Stoughton runners at this year's Boston Marathon, finishing in 3:45.26.
Ten Stoughton residents, ranging in age from 28 to 60, made the 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston on Monday, April 16, 2012 running in the 116th Boston Marathon. The Stoughton field included seven males (William Coulter, Joe Rossi, Tim Stone, Barry Sussman, Greg Swartz, Stuart Weiner and Mike Wilson) and three females (Mara Hochberg, Jennifer Joyce and Leanne Pacheco). Lisa Andrews also qualified but wasn’t able to run in the Marathon because of a stress fracture in her right foot. Fifty-year-old Greg Swartz led the Stoughton bunch finishing in less than four hours, completing the course in 3 hours 45 minutes and 26 seconds (3:45:26). Swartz ran at an 8:36 per mile pace. STOUGHTON NATIVE RUNS MARATHON FOR MENTORING PROGRAM: Stoughton High Athletic Hall of Famer Jeff Russell, better known these days as the Chief Operating Officer of the Old Colony YMCA, is running the Boston Marathon on Patriots’ Day for the Mass Mentoring Partnership. Rossi, 32, will be running for the House of Possibilties (HOPe) 2012 Boston Marathon Team called “Delivering HOPe.”
Stoughton’s Joe Rossi is running this year’s Boston Marathon to bring “HOPe” to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Rossi is looking to raise money for the House of Possibilities in Easton (HOPe). As Rossi explains in an email sent to supporters, the House of Possibilities, located on Route 138 in Easton near Stonehill College, brings “encouragement and compassion to children and adults living with developmental disabilities. They endeavor to offer these individuals opportunities to pursue a variety of activities individually and in small groups. The following is a press release from the Dana Farber: On April 16, Stoughton’s Lisa Andrews will be running in the 116th Boston Marathon to help conquer cancer as a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. Andrews, along with Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge teammates from across the United States and around the world, will run Massachusetts’ historic marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston with a goal to raise $4.8 million for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
