Children recently had the chance to see new spring baby farm animals up close when the "Farm Visit with Dawn Cordeiro" came to the Stoughton Public Library.
As part of the Stoughton Public Library and Stoughton Youth Commission's annual Earth Day celebration, dozens of children had the chance to see new spring baby farm animals up close. The popular Farm Visit with Dawn Cordeiro took place Saturday morning, April 20 in the Wales French Room of the Stoughton Public Library. Children got to hold bunnies, feed chicks, and pet a goat and a pig. Take a look at photos in the media gallery of this article.

The Stoughton Leadership Institute, led by Patric Anjos, a Leadership & Civic Engagement Fellow with the AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, will help students develop their leadership skills.
With the help of Patric Anjos, a Leadership & Civic Engagement Fellow with the AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, the Stoughton Youth Commission is forming a Leadership Institute to help high schoolers develop their leadership skills and learn about their leadership style. "You don't have to be in your face; that's [just] one style," Anjos said. He said he wants the students who participate to realize the importance of "not trying to be someone else," but rather becoming "a leader in their own right." Following the tragic deaths of two young residents, the Stoughton Youth Commission is having a pair of group sessions to help parents address grief with their children.
With the recent losses of two young residents, the Stoughton Youth Commission is holding a pair of group sessions intended for parents to "share ideas and to learn skills that will help them talk to their children about grief and to gain support from others," a flyer from the Stoughton Youth Commission explains. "Grief is a natural emotional experience in response to loss. In [light] of the recent tragedies that Stoughton has faced, parents and families may need some extra support addressing grief," the flyer continues. STOUGHTON GIRL PLACES AMONG TOP GOLFERS IN STATE: Stoughton's own Julia Falco was one of the top golfers at the New England Championship at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, New Hampshire in late June. It was a battle between 10 of the best boys and girls from the six New England states. Falco finished 5th with a score of 76 (4 over par.) Only one other girl from Massachusetts beat her. She made a career-high five birdies in her round with, four coming on her last seven holes. She played those last seven two under par. Another of her highlights was Julia's finish in the State Team Championship in which she placed third with an 85 at Holdin Hills, MA on June 5. The Stoughton Youth Commission's Youth Advisory Council held a year-end celebration honoring its members and looking back at a busy year of service.
The Stoughton Youth Commission's Youth Advisory Council held its year-end awards ceremony last Wednesday, May 30, at the Senior Center/Youth Commission building, honoring its most active members and celebrating a year of service to the community. The Youth Advisory Council was active in 2011-2012. YAC leader Melissa Barbosa said the group participated in a number of activities including: the Walk for Diabetes; gathering Thanksgiving food baskets for Stoughton families in need; Christmas in the City (where thousands of homeless families get shuttled in to a location and served meals and kids are given toys); Team Building Day; a Knights of Columbus football game fundraiser (which helped raise money for children with disabilities); a book …

The Stoughton Youth Commission will be collecting donations until June 1 for the five families displaced by the recent Park St. fire.
The Town of Stoughton's Youth Commission, through the Stoughton Youth Resources, is looking to help the families displaced by the May 1 fire on Park St., which significantly damaged the multi-unit residence. Five families and 17 people in all were displaced, according to Stoughton Fire Department officials and the Red Cross. The Stoughton Youth Commission, according to a release, is seeking cash, checks, or gift card donations, which will be split equally between the five families. "Many of the families have lost everything," according to the release.
