LENNY CLARKE COMING TO STOUGHTON: Yes, that's right, legendary comedian Lenny Clarke will be coming soon to our town. You know him from "Rescue Me", "The Chelsea Handler Show", and, or course, his many appearances on PMPNetwork.com.  He'll be coming to VFW Post 1645, 837 Washington Street in Stoughton Center on Friday, April 19. Doors Open at 8 p.m. Show time is 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 each. (Table of 10 for $300.)   The Comedy Night is being hosted by Joe Finn, and will also feature Christine Hurley and Jack Walsh.  Finn is a recently retired police officer who has been doing and promoting comedy part time for the past 17 years. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY WINNERS ANNOUNCED:  Michael Romanuk VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton recently announced the local winners of this year's National VFW competitive educational programs. Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the VFW's premiere scholarship program. Each year over 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives.  Students write and record a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year 's topic was, "Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?"  Stoughton Historical Society's Past President Joe DeVito, who is co-chairman of the local Voice of Democracy competition with VFW 1645 Quartermaster Rudy Medeiros, tells About Town that the 1st place winner at Stoughton High School is …

ABOUT TOWN: Stoughton's Veterans Receive Weekend Salute

STOUGHTON SALUTES ITS VETERANS: The Veterans Day Parade began exactly at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 11 from VFW Post 1645 on Washington Street. The Town Hall ceremony started about 15 minutes later, and featured the patriotic music of the award-winning Stoughton High School Marching Band, an excellent speech by Stoughton Veterans Agent and Vietnam Veteran Mike Pazyra, and a wreath laying at the Memorial Bell. Of course, there was also the reading of the names of every Stoughton soldier who gave their lives for their country in America's wars. World War II veteran Charlie Large, who has been reading the names for many years, is ailing and living in a Norwood nursing facility. Stepping in was retired Veterans Agent and Vietnam Vet Paul …

VETERANS DAY PARADE: The Annual Stoughton Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. sharp from VFW Post 1645 on Washington Street on Sunday, Nov. 11. The parade will proceed through the square to the Stoughton Town Hall via Washington, School and Pearl Streets for a ceremony and wreath laying at the Memorial Bell. The parade will then reform on Pearl Street and proceed back through the square to Faxon Veterans Memorial Park (across from the library near the Charles Large Gazebo) for two ceremonies at the two memorials there. The parade will then proceed down Walnut Street to Washington Street and go back to the VFW for a collation. The entire parade will be approximately one and one-half hours. VFW Honors Three Stoughton High Students for Winning "Voice of Democracy" Essay Contest

Three Stoughton High students were recently honored at a VFW Awards Ceremony for winning the Voice of Democracy essay contest here at the local level.  Junior Will McGrath was the first place winner, receiving a $300 prize; sophomore Kassandra Melo came in second and received a $200 prize; and sophomore Julia Sjoquist came in third and received a $100 prize. The students had to write an essay that when read aloud was 3-5 minutes in length, answering the question: "Is there pride in serving in our military?" VFW AWARDS PRESENTATION: The Michael Romanuk V.F.W. Post 1645 had their Installation of Post Officers on Sunday, May 20 at their post headquarters on Washington St, just outside the downtown. The Post, which was established March 10, 1929, is celebrating its 83rd year. Elected as Commander was Jim Kelly. Sr. Vice Commander is Brian Turner, and Junior Vice Commander is Gary Barkey. Quartermaster is Rudolph Medeiros, and Chaplain is Frederick C. Varner. Judge Advocate is Charlie Wade, and Surgeon is Jack McSweeney. The 1 Year Trustee is H. Lee Parker, 2 Year Trustee is Louis DiRusso, and 3 year Trustee is Irving Saltzman. SAMMARCO EVENT WAS COOKING! Oh, what a night! About 140 people gathered Saturday night, March 10 at the VFW Hall in Stoughton to roast long-time Stoughton Babe Ruth Baseball director Mike Sammarco, who is also a well known cook at the Sons of Italy. The talk was of his meatballs and chicken cutlets, but attendees got dessert and coffee from Panera Bread. The event, sponsored by the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce, was a huge success. Over $2000 was raised for the Chamber's charitable endeavors and almost a grand was raised for Stoughton Babe Ruth baseball! Event Chair Cindy Pazyra, with her committee (Fred Yaitanes, Rick Kaplan, Chris Petrie, Terry Schneider--with an assist from Joanne Schneider) pulled together a wonderful event, that …
