Stoughton's Town Hall Roof Project Update Parking in the front of and on either side of Stoughton's Town Hall has been temporarily prohibited as crews continue work on the historic building's roof. The historic building's asphalt roof is being replaced with a more durable slate surface. Town employees will continue to park in the lot in the rear of the building (off Rose Street) and the municipal lot next to the Stoughton Police Station on Rose Street. More street parking will have to be utilized in the meantime for visitors. Patrons are being asked to enter the building from the rear (the basement), with signs …

Stoughton's Town Hall Roof Project Creates Parking "Inconvenience"

Roof project begins, reshuffling the parking situation at Stoughton's Town Hall. The historic building's asphalt roof will be replaced with a more durable slate surface.

Residents making a trip to Stoughton Town Hall over the next couple of months may need to brush up on their parallel parking and street parking skills. Parking in the front of and on either side of the Town Hall has been temporarily prohibited as crews begin work on the historic building's roof. However, there will be some spaces available on the Pearl St. side of the building for handicapped patrons. Town employees will continue to park in the lot in the rear of the building (off Rose Street) and the municipal lot next to the Stoughton Police Station on Rose Street. ABOUT TOWN: Murder at Stoughton's Town Hall?

  MURDER IN THE LIBRARY? Actually, the "murder" will be taking place at Town Hall, if Dori Frankel has anything to say about it. Frankel went to the Selectmen's meeting Tuesday night requesting to hold a "Murder In the Library" scripted theater event at the Town Hall on Jan. 18, 2013 as a fundraiser for Support Our Library Association, Inc. (SOLA). The SOLA group, a 501C3 nonprofit organization formed in October of 2011, is replacing the Friends of Stoughton Public Library, as the fundraising arm of the Park Street library. Frankel would like to see this murder-mystery take place in the Great Hall, on the third floor of the Town Hall. The theatrical production will include a cast of eight played by well-known "characters" in the Stoughton …

Stoughton Seeking Volunteers for 19 Town Board/Committees

The deadline for applications is Friday, June 8 at noon.

Town of Stoughton - Notice of Vacancies  Applications for appointment to the following boards and commissions will be accepted at the Town Manager's office at Town Hall (10 Pearl St.) until noon on Friday, June 8, 2012: Positions are voluntary except Board of Assessors, which has an annual stipend of $666.  Applications are available at the Town Manager's Office (third floor of the Town Hall) or online here: BoardApplication.pdf  Any questions, call 781-341-1300, ext. 9211 or email twnmgr@stoughton-ma.gov. STOUGHTON'S PRINCIPAL CLERK PASSES AWAY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS: Janet M. (Norris) Benson, 66, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a brief illness. She was the wife of Kevin P. Benson.  Born and raised in Brookline, she was a graduate of Brookline Schools. Benson was a resident of Stoughton for over 40 years. She worked in the Town Clerk's Office at Stoughton Town Hall for over 15 years as a Principal Clerk, leaving about four months ago to fight illness.   Her friends and colleagues thought she was on the mend. But, she lost her fight.  In her free time, Benson enjoyed shopping, her cats, day trips to Twin River and spending time with her family and her beloved grandchildren. In addition to her …

Stoughton Town Meeting Approves Repairs for Town Hall Roof, Water Works; Establishes Glen Echo Use Committee

Session five of town meeting also approved a series of articles providing tax relief to those service men and women stationed abroad. Town Meeting continues with session six on May 23.

In a move supporters of the article said would cost a little more up front, but save the town money over the long haul, Town Meeting members voted unanimously Monday night at the fifth session of the 2012 Annual Town Meeting to install a slate roof on the historic Stoughton Town Hall. To do this, Town Meeting approved the borrowing of up to $150,000 under the Community Preservation Program. Town Engineer Ben Feehan explained that there is about $330,000 of available funds for the repair of the Town Hall roof. This is enough if the town wanted to use an asphalt surface, as is currently the case, but would need to approve the additional funding to cover the costs of a slate roof, which is around $380,000. The Stoughton Board of Selectmen meets Tuesday evening, May 22, in the Great Hall on the third floor of Town Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m. Selectmen are expected to discuss the search for a permanent town manager. The School Committee was also scheduled to meet this Tuesday night, but the meeting has been postponed until Tuesday, May 29. The Selectmen's agenda is posted in the media gallery.
