Political Season Underway in Stoughton With the Presidential Election season behind us, it's time to turn our attention to local politics. The 2013 Town Meeting and Elections Calendar has been posted on the town website and can be found in the media gallery of this article. As of Nov. 1, nomination papers to run for town-wide office or for Town Meeting representative have been available at the Town Clerk's Office on the first floor of the Town Hall. Selectmen Express Interest In Town Acquiring Stoughton Train Station from MBTA

The Redevelopment Authority will negotiate purchasing the Train Station with Transit Reality Associates (representing the MBTA). The MBTA recently placed the historic property in downtown Stoughton on the market.

The town, through the Stoughton Redevelopment Authority, intends to purchase the historic Stoughton Train Station from the MBTA and then, if possible, sell it or lease it to a third party, Selectmen chair John Stagnone said. The Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 Tuesday evening to formally express the town's interest in acquiring the property, which includes 30 adjacent parking spaces. Selectmen voted to direct Interim Town Manager Joseph Feaster to inform Transit Realty Associates (representing the MBTA) that the town intends to acquire the train station and the negotiations will be done through the Stoughton Redevelopment Authority. First of all, Ms. Walsh is in an elected position. It is the people in this town that have voted her in. Second, what does her property have to do with her ability to serve on the board? You ask why she has been "allowed" to be on the Board for so many years, it is because she received a majority vote. ELECTION NEWS:  We'll know better after the close of business today what the April elections will shape up to be—nomination papers for town-wide boards and committees have to be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 3. There's already a race for Selectman for the April 2012 election. Incumbents Cynthia Walsh and John Anderson, who have both served as vice chairman, will be challenged by Town Meeting member Robert "Bob" O'Regan and former Selectman Joe Mokrisky, if they drop off the required signatures by the end of the day. There will be two seats up for election. A minimum of 120 signatures from registered Stoughton voters is needed to get on the ballot. O'Regan is a partner in the law firm of Burns & …
