Gallery: Stoughton Public Library Hosts Passover Seder

As part of the Stoughton Reads Together Program, the Stoughton Public Library recently hosted a Passover Seder. Take a look at pictures from the Seder in the media gallery.

About 50 people gathered in the Wales French Room of the Stoughton Public Library last Wednesday for an early celebration of Passover as part of a Stoughton Reads Together event. The eight-day Jewish holiday officially starts at sundown on Monday, March 25 and commemorates the story of Moses and "the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt," according to Chabad.org.  Passover is marked by a Seder on the first two nights, "a fifteen-step family-oriented tradition and ritual-packed feast," including the reciting of the Haggadah, which "describes in detail the story of the Exodus from Egypt," according to Chabad.org. Stoughton Public Library trustee Harvey Levensohn led the March 20 Seder at the Library, which was …

2013 Stoughton Reads Together Book Selection a Sweeping Historical Adventure

"People of the Book," a 2008 historical fiction novel inspired by the true story of a mysterious codex known as the Sarajevo Haggadah, is the 2013 Stoughton Reads Together Book Selection.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Stoughton Public Library: Inspired by the true story of a mysterious codex known as the Sarajevo Haggadah, People of the Book is a sweeping fictional adventure through five centuries of history. In 1996, Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert, is offered the job of a lifetime: analysis and conservation of the famed manuscript, which has been rescued once again from Serb shelling during the Bosnian war.  Priceless and beautiful, the book is one of the earliest Jewish volumes ever to be illuminated with figurative paintings. When Hanna, a caustic loner with a passion for her work, discovers a series of tiny artifacts in its ancient binding—an insect wing fragment, wine stains, salt …

Letter To The Editor

LETTER: Thumbs Up for Civil War Remembrance Day Activities

As part of the Stoughton Reads Together Program, the Stoughton Public Library held a Civil War Remembrance Day in town on April 21.

Jean and I attended the "Stoughton Reads Together" at Faxon Park on 4/21/12. We wish to commend Pat Basler for the excellence of the entire program, from noontime till 5:00 o'clock. The people that attended, know how great it was, and the people that missed it, lost out on a great day for the Town of Stoughton. The Civil War era drill exhibitions were marvelous. The group "Dixon's Gold Band" sang songs from the Civil war era, they were great. Again I say thank you to Pat Basler for a great day. ~ Leo Mellyn *** Editor’s Note - For photo and video highlights from the Civil War Remembrance Events, click on the following link: Gallery: Civil War Remembrance Day in Stoughton ***
