Stoughton Police Make Multiple Arrests for Assault and Battery, Drug Possession

Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. *** Assault & Battery Joseph John Napolitano, 65, of Pinewood Ave. in Stoughton, was charged with assault & battery by a dangerous weapon after police responded to a call on Pinewood Ave. shortly after 8 p.m. on May 12. Napolitano allegedly sprayed his neighbor with mace.  This was the result of an ongoing neighbor dispute, Deputy Chief Robert Devine said, and while Napolitano is licensed to carry mace, police said the spraying was unwarranted.  *** Assault and Battery A caller reported that a male punched a female in the face in the vicinity of 3 Hawes Way in Stoughton (Planet Fitness), then chased her …

Whiplash in Stoughton Has Entertainment License Revoked, Liquor License Suspended

Stoughton selectmen held a hearing May 8 to decide the fate of Whiplash's licenses following a string of recent violent activity at the Stoughton nightclub. Additionally, selectmen also voted to impose a closing time of 11 p.m.

In the wake of the early morning shooting which took place outside Whiplash nightclub on Wyman St. in Stoughton April 21, Police Chief Paul Shastany and Executive Officer (now Deputy Chief) Robert Devine appeared before selectmen April 23 and recommended selectmen take "aggressive" and "bold" action against the club's licenses. At a hearing May 8 in the Great Hall of the Stoughton Town Hall, selectmen did just that. Selectmen voted to revoke Whiplash's entertainment license; suspend its alcohol license for 30 days (commencing June 1); and to modify the liquor license to impose a closing time of 11 p.m. (instead of the current 1 a.m.).  Town Counsel Brian Riley from Kopelman & Paige ran the hearing. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. *** Drunk Driving Arrests May 4 Bernadette Wyman, 53, of Berkley, MA, was charged with operating under the influence (OUI liquor) following a motor vehicle stop at 37 Dykeman Way in Stoughton at 1:09 a.m. on May 4. Wyman was also charged with operating a motor vehicle negligently to endanger; possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; a lights violation; making an improper right turn; and a marked lanes violation.  May 2 Stoughton Police received a call at 2:39 a.m. on May 2 for a suspicious motor vehicle at McDonald's on Washington St. in Stoughton. Stoughton Police: Murder Suspect Taken into Custody

Willie Foster, 47, of Dorchester, wanted for murder in an apparent domestic homicide in Stoughton, has been found and taken into custody in Boston, according to Stoughton Police.

Willie Foster, 47, of Dorchester, wanted for murder in an apparent domestic homicide in Stoughton, has been found and taken into custody in Boston Monday morning, according to Stoughton Police.  Anita Clark, 46, was found dead, covered in the bedroom closet of her 76 Glen Echo Blvd. home in Stoughton Saturday evening.  During the investigation, authorities developed enough evidence in the residence to establish "probable cause" to issue a warrant for the arrest of Foster, who is the estranged husband of the victim. "From Worst to First" - Stoughton Police Department Achieves Accreditation

Deputy Chief Robert Devine and Accreditation manager Sgt. Tom Murphy were honored at a Mass. Police Accreditation Commission conference on May 2, receiving the SPD's official accreditation plaque, which recognizes professional excellence.

After a lengthy discussion with Selectmen on April 23 about several public safety issues surrounding a Stoughton nightclub, Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany ended on a positive note. He told Selectmen the department had achieved accredited status from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. Sworn in as chief April 5, 2010, the Stoughton Police Department has been working towards accreditation since. "It was a goal of mine before I was appointed [chief]. Stoughton Police Selling 'Boston Strong' T-Shirts to Honor Fallen MIT Officer Sean Collier

The shirts are $20 and $10 of each sale will go to One Fund Boston.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon terrorist attacks members of the Stoughton Police Department are selling t-shirts to help raise money for One Fund Boston. The front of the t-shirts, which only come in black, have an insignia of a Stoughton Police badge with the name Collier across it to honor fallen Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer Sean Collier who died in the line of duty, allegedly at the hands of the Boston Marathon bombers. The back of the shirt says "Boston Strong" and "Stoughton Strong" with a blue and yellow ribbon that has the zip codes of Boston and Stoughton on it. Officer Jen Sullivan and Sergeant Donna McNamara are selling the shirts for $20 apiece. $10 of each sale will go to One Fund Boston. The shirts …

Devine Named Stoughton's Deputy Chief of Police

Town Meeting representatives voted last year to establish the position of deputy police chief. Robert Devine has been with the Stoughton Police Department since 1999, most recently serving as executive officer.

The newly accredited Stoughton Police Department has officially filled its newly created deputy chief position.  Steadily climbing the ranks of the Stoughton Police Department since his arrival in 1999, Robert Devine was appointed Deputy Chief of Stoughton Police on Tuesday. Devine, who has in effect been Chief Paul Shastany's right-hand man while serving as Executive Officer, is now officially second in command in his new position.  On the opening night of Stoughton's Annual Town Meeting last year, town meeting representatives voted to establish the position of deputy police chief. "Take Aggressive Action Against Whiplash," Stoughton Police Chief Tells Selectmen

Following a shooting outside Whiplash this past Sunday morning and a number of violent incidents at the club, the Stoughton Board of Selectmen will hold a hearing on May 8 to decide the status of Whiplash's entertainment, alcohol and operation licenses.

In the wake of the early morning shooting which took place outside Whiplash nightclub on Wyman St. in Stoughton this past Sunday, Police Chief Paul Shastany and Executive Officer Robert Devine appeared before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night and recommended selectmen take "aggressive" and "bold" action against the club's licenses. Devine highlighted a number of violent incidents at the club since July, which culminated in a string of recent activity which included a large brawl with multiple arrests on April 14 and a shooting, which sent two to the hospital on April 21.  Shastany read aloud a letter he wrote to selectmen where he concluded that Whiplash "constitutes a clear and ongoing danger to the public."
