Gallery: Stoughton Teens Bring Joy to Children at Christmas in the City

Dozens of Stoughton youth recently volunteered at a huge Christmas party for Boston-area homeless shelters.

A busload of teens from the Stoughton Life Teen program. recently volunteered at the annual Christmas in the City event in Boston, helping to make the holidays a little brighter for homeless children and families in need. The Stoughton Life Teen volunteers were joined by members of the Stoughton YAC, as well as other volunteers from the area. Stoughton Life Teen went on Saturday Dec. 15 to help set up and decorate for the party, held Sunday Dec. 16, which was held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in South Boston. Stoughton Life Teen helped to create over 6,000 paper snowflakes which were used to decorate the hundreds of tables set up for guests. SHS GRAD RAISING FUNDS FOR GIRLS' CHARITY:  Jenna Policow, a 2010 graduate of Stoughton High School, is a junior at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She will be running in the Philadelphia Half Marathon this weekend, raising funds for Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run, according to its website, is a "non-profit prevention program that uses the power of running to help prepare preteen and early teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health, recognizing that every girl is special, that every girl is strong, that every girl is a winner." NEW BURGER RESTAURANT OPENS IN STOUGHTON: After much anticipation, Jake's Wayback Burgers has opened at the corner of Washington Street and Central Street, in the building last occupied by Little Caesar's Pizza, and before that Zoots Dry Cleaning. The cozy restaurant features music, fresh cooked food, and a friendly atmosphere. It is owned by the Lopes Family of Stoughton. Owner Amantino Lopes told About Town that he was very happy to finally be open. He credited the accommodating employees of the Town of Stoughton. And the Winner of the Pride of Stoughton Photo Contest is...

A photo of Joey Ialuna and Ross Andler cleaning up the area around the skate park finished in first, while a picture of the SHS freshmen softball team cleaning up the train station came in second.

About 75 people volunteered on Sunday, April 29 for the Pride of Stoughton Day, an annual community clean up event sponsored by the Stoughton Youth Commission. Several photos were submitted to the Pride of Stoughton Photo Contest right here on Stoughton Patch.  Staff from the Stoughton Youth Commission, OASIS and Stoughton Patch selected seven finalists, representing the best and most creative pictures that we received. We asked you, the readers, to vote and decide on who would win the contest.  After a week of voting (the poll was open Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18), Stoughton High seniors and Stoughton Youth Advisory Council members Joey Ialuna and Ross Andler took home the top prize. BABY ITEM DRIVE: Justin Braga of Life Teen at Immaculate Conception Church, tells About Town that this Sunday, September 25, they are holding a baby item drive to help benefit Friends of the Unborn in Quincy.   There will be a baby shower to collect essential items for mothers and their babies! Last year, Stoughton Life Teen raised $1,127.94 to help build wells in Africa for the Give It Away Now! Life Night. As a global Life Teen family, the group totaled over $200,000 which was enough to build and maintain 18 wells in Ghana. This year, they want to stock the shelves of our local pregnancy resource center and help new and expecting mothers and their babies!  Everyone is invited to drop off baby items in boxes at the entrances of Immaculate…
