Stoughton High Volleyball Season Comes to End; Team Sets Bar High for Future Squads

The Stoughton High volleyball team lost to Barnstable in the quarterfinals of the D1 South Sectional tournament, ending the most successful season in the five year history of the program.

Photos by Suzanne Jolley *** After beating 10th seeded Braintree in the first round this past Saturday, the #7 Stoughton High volleyball team traveled to #2 Barnstable in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional tournament Monday night. Barnstable, a Massachusetts high school volleyball powerhouse - back-to-back state D1 state champions, and winners of 14 of the last 19 D1 championships - beat Stoughton in straight sets 25-4, 25-11 and 25-18, ending the Black Knights' historic season. Stoughton, 13-5 in the regular season (and 14-6 overall), finished with the best mark in the program's brief five year history. Seems his program, from the beginning, has never received the respect or support from the school department. How many other teams had to raise $20K to start their programs? Stoughton High Volleyball Picks Up First State Tournament Win in Program History

The #7 seeded Stoughton High volleyball team beat #10 Braintree, 3-1, in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional volleyball tournament Saturday at SHS. Stoughton advances to play #2 Barnstable in the quarterfinals.

Photos by Molly Zuk. *** After being edged in the first set, the Stoughton High volleyball team bounced back with a dominant second set and pulled out close victories in sets three and four to earn a 3-1 win over Braintree, 21-25, 25-10, 25-21 and 25-22, in the opening round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional tournament Saturday evening at home. Stoughton High Volleyball Earns Home Match to Start State Tournament

The Stoughton High volleyball team, seeded 7th in an 11-team bracket, will host #10 Braintree in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional volleyball tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. at SHS.

One year after making its first-ever appearance in the MIAA postseason state tournament, the Stoughton High volleyball team is set to host a postseason match for the first time. The MIAA released its state tournament volleyball brackets Thursday. After a 13-5 regular season, the best mark in the program's brief five year history, Stoughton High is seeded #7 in the 11-team MIAA Division 1 South Sectional bracket. Stoughton will host #10 Braintree (12-8) Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the SHS gym. "I am totally thrilled for Stoughton High School and our volleyball players. Postseason Bound Stoughton High Volleyball Sweeps Randolph on Senior Night

The Stoughton High volleyball team paid tribute to its six seniors during the final regular season match, a 3-0 win over visiting Randolph. The 13-5 Black Knights are postseason bound and will learn their tournament seeding next week.

The Stoughton High Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win on senior night over visiting Randolph Friday evening. The Black Knights surrendered only 31 combined points all match in a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 straight-sets win, the team's second over Randolph this season. Kayla Motley had 11 kills and 11 service points; Gabby Medina had 16 digs, "two of which were of the spectacular variety," coach Ken Gay said. And, Nicole Daniels recorded her 100th block of the season. Stoughton honored its six seniors - captains Medina, Emma Zuk and Lauren Carmichael, as well as Daniels, Kadijah Dansby and the team's only male, Jalen Joseph. SHS Sports Roundup: Volleyball Wins 12th; Schlehuber Leads Field Hockey to Pair of Victories

Highlights from the Stoughton High volleyball and field hockey teams.

VOLLEYBALL (courtesy of coach Ken Gay) The Stoughton High volleyball team defeated Milford 3-0 Monday on the road. Starring for Stoughton: Nicole Daniels with 16 kills and 9 blocks; Emma Zuk with 15 assists and one sweet pancake; and Jalen Joseph with 12 service points and 4 aces. The win gives the already postseason bound squad a 12-4 record with two-matches left in the regular season - Wednesday at undefeated Canton and Friday at home against Randolph, which will be senior night.  In JV action, Stoughton lost to Milford 2-0.   The Stoughton freshmen also fell to Milford, 2-1, in their final match of the season. Article by Jeffrey Pickette; Photos by Justin Braga *** After the Stoughton High volleyball team edged Oliver Ames in the first set of Friday's match in Stoughton, 25-21, the Tigers kept things close at the start of the second and third sets, but the Black Knights were able to pull away both times, winning in straight sets, 3-0, improving to 11-4 on the season. Tied at 14 in the second set, Stoughton closed with an 11-1 run to win 25-15 and go up 2-0. The third set was tied 7-7, but Stoughton used a 13-2 run to go up 20-9. Oliver Ames fought back with a 9-4 run, closing the gap to 24-18, but Stoughton was able to secure the match-winning point, taking what proved to be the decisive set 25-18. SHS Sports Roundup: Volleyball Wins 10th; Boys' Soccer Heating Up; Cross Country Sweeps Meet

Highlights from the Stoughton High volleyball, boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' cross country, and field hockey teams.

VOLLEYBALL In a back-and-forth match, the Stoughton High volleyball team pulled out a 3-1 win Wednesday against visiting Foxborough, improving to 10-4 on the season. Stoughton won the first set 29-27, fighting off four Foxborough set points. The Black Knights then fell behind 8-0 in the second set, but won eight of the next nine points to climb back into the set. Stoughton never led however, and Foxborough hung on, 25-21. Stoughton fell behind again in the third set, 9-3, but tied the set at 10, and ended up winning 25-23. In the fourth set, up two sets to one, coach Ken Gay spun his lineup, putting his players in different starting positions than in the first three sets, and the move worked out, with Stoughton cruising to a decisive 25-10…

Stoughton High Volleyball Raises $4,200 for American Cancer Society; Clinches Postseason Berth

The SHS volleyball team had its annual "Dig for the Cure" fundraising match with Sharon Friday night in Stoughton, with the Black Knights raising more than $4,000 for the American Cancer society and beating Sharon to earn a postseason berth.

Before the Stoughton High volleyball team even stepped on to the court Friday night the Black Knights were already winners, having secured more than $4,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society through fundraising efforts. But, on the court, the Black Knights were winners too, sweeping Sharon 25-16, 25-19, 25-17, picking up their ninth win of the season, and with it clinching a berth in the postseason state tournament for the second consecutive season and for just the second time in the program's five year history. Stoughton is now 9-4 on the season. In the win over Sharon, Emma Zuk had 19 assists, 8 digs, and 11 service points; Jalen Joseph had 19 service points and 5 aces; Kayla Motley had 9 kills and 6 blocks; and Nicole Daniels …

Stoughton High Volleyball Team Leads SHS Community in Fight Against Cancer

The SHS volleyball team recently led a 5K fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society and will continue its charitable efforts with a "Dig for the Cure" fundraising match Oct. 12 at home. Take a look at pictures from the walk in the media gallery.

Led by the efforts of Stoughton High volleyball coach Ken Gay, the volleyball team, with an assist from the Stoughton High Student Council, recently organized a 5K fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society. In what has become an annual event, dozens of students (with a great showing of SHS student-athletes), teachers, coaches and parents gathered Saturday, Sept. 29 at Stoughton High on a damp morning to take part in the 3.1-mile walk. Just a couple of days before the start of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many came to the walk decked out in pink.  The walk raised a little of $1,700, Gay said, with walkers asked to donate $5 to participate and the Student Council selling baked goods and pink t-shirts which read "…
