Highlights of Tuesday evening's Class Night celebration at Stoughton High.

Less than 48 hours before Commencement, the annual Class Night exercises were held for the Stoughton High Class of 2013. Seniors, their family members, and school faculty and administration gathered in the SHS auditorium Tuesday evening, June 4, for a celebration of this year's graduates. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi, Senior Class officers Niamh Fennessy, Kiara Serret, Kelsie LaFerriere and Fiona Joyce, and Senior Class advisors Kathleen Bulger and Tim Norton addressed the senior class (Norton, a die-hard Philadelphia fan, said he would do anything for his seniors, and put on a personalized Bruins jersey as proof).  SHS Principal Julie Miller served as the master of ceremonies. The Stoughton High Class of 2013 (as well as some other SHS students) danced the night away at the Senior Prom, held Thursday, May 30 in a ballroom at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. Emma Zuk was named Prom Queen, while Mikey Cardoso was Prom King, each receiving a sash and crown.  Other members of the Prom Court included Kerry Backman, Becky Detore, Rachel Mackness, Toni Noe, Dan Block, Will McGrath, Sheldon Oliveira and Mike Paukner.  TJ Productions kept the music going non-stop, providing DJ entertainment. Stoughton High Scoreboard: Baseball Playoff Game at Greater New Bedford Postponed Until Tuesday

BASEBALL PLAYOFF GAME POSTPONED  Overcoming an early deficit, the sixth seeded Stoughton High baseball team prevailed 5-4 over visiting Dennis-Yarmouth, the 11th seed, Friday afternoon in an opening round game of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional tournament.   With the victory, the Black Knights (14-7) advance to play at #3 Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School (14-5) The game, originally schedule for Monday afternoon June 3, has been POSTPONED due to the inclement weather until TUESDAY, JUNE 4 at 2 p.m. The early start time is to accommodate the Stoughton High Senior Class Night, according to Stoughton High Athletic Director Ryan Donahue. Stoughton High Seniors Fennessy and Jackman Named Hockomock League Scholar Athletes

Niamh Fennessy and Pat Jackman were honored at the 24th Annual Hockomock League Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner.

Recognized for their athletic excellence, leadership on and off the field, and top performance in the classroom, Stoughton High seniors Niamh Fennessy and Pat Jackman were honored at the 24th Annual Hockomock League Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner. A male and female from each of the 12 Hockomock schools received this award at a reception held at Lake Pearl Luciano's in Wrentham on May 9. Stoughton High Athletic Director Ryan Donahue chose Fennessy and Jackman for this honor, making the selection based on grade point average and overall involvement in the athletics program. The Stoughton High Drama Department presented "The Wiz," an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz, with a few twists from the classic tale May 10-12 at the Stoughton High auditorium. Amber Ais played Dorothy, William Philips played the Scarecrow, Matt Scabia played the Tin Man, and Dan Block was the Lion.  Josh Williams was The Wiz, Caroline Cusack was Addaperle and Olivia Quattrucci was Evillene. Marijuana, Alcohol Use Down Among Stoughton Students, According to OASIS Survey

Results from the Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton (OASIS) 2013 Stoughton Youth Survey, which collected data about alcohol and drug usage rates among high school and middle school students in Stoughton.

A whopping 83-percent of Stoughton High School students are currently using marijuana. Well, at least that's what the students perceive. In actuality, the current marijuana use rate (having used over the last 30 days) is much lower - 21.5-percent, according to a survey run by the OASIS group (Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton).  Statewide, that number is 28-percent, and country-wide it is 23-percent.  In the last OASIS survey, conducted in 2011, 28-percent of Stoughton students admitted to using marijuana over the past 30-days. The 21.5-percent is the lowest rate since the 2008 survey (19-percent). Lifetime usage rate for marijuana is also down, with 37-percent of SHS students having tried marijuana, vs. 42-percent in the 2011 …

Stoughton High Music Department Presents 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert

The Stoughton High Music Department's 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert takes place Friday, May 17 at SHS.

The following is from the Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department: The Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department will present its 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert on Friday, May 17 at Stoughton High. The Art Gallery will be open at 6:30 p.m. The concert portion will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The concert will feature the SHS Choirs under the direction of Griffin Coombs and the SHS Bands directed by John Mange. The SHS Drum Club will be directed by Andrew Davey. Tickets will be available at the door only. Adults $5, seniors and children $3, with a family maximum of $10. Stoughton Musicians from SHS, OMS Perform at Prestigious SEMSBA Honors Festival

Eleven music students - eight from the O'Donnell Middle School and three from Stoughton High School - recently participated in the 2013 Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Honors Festival.

The following is a press release from the Stoughton Public Schools Music Department: Eleven music students from the O’Donnell Middle School and Stoughton High School recently participated in the 2013 Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Honors Festival. The festival was held at Rockland School on Saturday, May 4. Stoughton High School Freshman Connor Nye performed with the Honors Orchestra.
