The Stoughton High Drama Department presented "The Wiz," an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz, with a few twists from the classic tale May 10-12 at the Stoughton High auditorium. Amber Ais played Dorothy, William Philips played the Scarecrow, Matt Scabia played the Tin Man, and Dan Block was the Lion. Josh Williams was The Wiz, Caroline Cusack was Addaperle and Olivia Quattrucci was Evillene. Results from the Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton (OASIS) 2013 Stoughton Youth Survey, which collected data about alcohol and drug usage rates among high school and middle school students in Stoughton.
A whopping 83-percent of Stoughton High School students are currently using marijuana. Well, at least that's what the students perceive. In actuality, the current marijuana use rate (having used over the last 30 days) is much lower - 21.5-percent, according to a survey run by the OASIS group (Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton). Statewide, that number is 28-percent, and country-wide it is 23-percent. In the last OASIS survey, conducted in 2011, 28-percent of Stoughton students admitted to using marijuana over the past 30-days. The 21.5-percent is the lowest rate since the 2008 survey (19-percent). Lifetime usage rate for marijuana is also down, with 37-percent of SHS students having tried marijuana, vs. 42-percent in the 2011 …

The following is from the Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department: The Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department will present its 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert on Friday, May 17 at Stoughton High. The Art Gallery will be open at 6:30 p.m. The concert portion will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The concert will feature the SHS Choirs under the direction of Griffin Coombs and the SHS Bands directed by John Mange. The SHS Drum Club will be directed by Andrew Davey. Eleven music students - eight from the O'Donnell Middle School and three from Stoughton High School - recently participated in the 2013 Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Honors Festival.
The following is a press release from the Stoughton Public Schools Music Department: Eleven music students from the O’Donnell Middle School and Stoughton High School recently participated in the 2013 Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Honors Festival. The festival was held at Rockland School on Saturday, May 4. Stoughton High School Freshman Connor Nye performed with the Honors Orchestra. Trumpeter Hannah Peterson and trombonist Adam Potter, also freshmen at SHS, performed with the Honors Concert Band. Time Dropped: The success, hard work, achievements and talents of Stoughton High swimmer Hunter Goodrich.
As Stoughton's Aquaman, Hunter Goodrich is undeniably one of the most dedicated, talented and passionate athletes at Stoughton High. The junior captain of the Stoughton High swim team has, on top of breaking a vast amount of records, won MVP for his team his first three high seasons and is a Hockomock All-Star for the past two years. Goodrich is, by nature, amphibious. Goodrich started swimming competitively at the age of 9 at the Canton Dolphins Recreational Team and "have swam there ever since." Goodrich said his father drew him to the sport. Aside from swimming for Stoughton and The Canton Dolphins Recreational teams, Goodrich swims for Hay Lightning, a swimming team based in North Attleboro out of the YMCA. Goodrich has competed in …

The Stoughton High Drama Department will be performing "The Wiz," a re-creation of the classic tale of the "Wizard of Oz," for its spring musical this year. Shows are Friday through Sunday, May 10, 11 and 12 at the SHS auditorium.
The Stoughton High drama department will be hosting its annual spring musical May 10-12 in the Stoughton High School auditorium. This year's production is called "The Wiz," which is a re-creation of the classic tale of the "Wizard of Oz," but with some fun twists. Show times are at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10; 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 11; and 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 12. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students. This prolific cast and a fantastic crew have been working countless hours to get this production ready. Jacob Casey, Payton Pizzano and Marissa Ramos all won first place in their respective categories in the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Massachusetts 2013 Photography Contest for High School students.
Three Stoughton High students won first place in their respective categories in the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Massachusetts 2013 Photography Contest for High School students. Jacob Casey, a freshman, won first place in the "Scenes" category. Payton Pizzano, a sophomore, won first place in the "living things category." And, Marissa Ramos, also a sophomore, won first place in the "Still Life" category. The entries were sponsored by the Stoughton Woman's Club, and judged at a statewide competition in Sudbury. Nancy Urell and Fran McNulty of the Stoughton Woman's Club recently came to the high school to present citations and first place ribbons to Casey, Pizzano and Ramos. Dale F. LaVelle worked at Stoughton High for 30 years, before his retirement in 1993. He passed away on April 27 at the age of 80.

The following is from the Farley Funeral Home website: Dale F. LaVelle, 80, a longtime resident of Brockton, and former longtime teacher at Stoughton High School, died unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Saturday, April 27. He was the husband of 50 years of Joan F. (Murray) LaVelle. Born in Buffalo, NY, he attended Catholic University and graduated from Oblate College both in Washington, DC. Mr. LaVelle earned his Masters Degree in Education Languages from Boston State College. He was a resident of Brockton since 1970. Mr. LaVelle was a teacher, Director of Foreign Languages and Principal (for a brief period in the early 1980s) during his tenure at Stoughton High School, where he worked for 30 years before …
