Stoughton High Honors Standout Juniors at Awards Ceremony

Members of the Stoughton High Class of 2014 were recently honored during the annual Junior Awards ceremony.

After honoring the Class of 2013 the week before at Class Night and at Graduation, Stoughton High School held an assembly honoring standout students in the SHS Class of 2014. A group of 15 deserving juniors received either certificates or book awards at the annual Junior Awards ceremony, held Wednesday, June 12 in the SHS auditorium. The junior award recipients included Kayla Burgos, Jessica Cohen, Tess Connor, Peter DaSilva, Alec DeNapoli, Kassandra Melo, Kevin James McDonald, Megan McMahon, Jesse Miller, Robert Mone, Monica Peterson, Elizabeth Sloane, Corey Shore, Emma Sinkus and Madeline Sinkus. Graduating from Stoughton Patch

Student reporter Josh Brown, who graduated with the Stoughton High Class of 2013, looks back at his time with Stoughton Patch.

April 15th of last year was the beginning of a new journey in life. That was the day I wrote a mediocre article about the Stoughton High Baseball Team falling to Silver Lake 3-0, in a game which featured a bench clearing tussle at home plate. After the game on the bus ride home, I texted then junior captain Pat Jackman and said, "give me some quotes like you give Jeff." Jackman, as always, gave a great assessment of the game despite my useless interview skills in an article where I did not even bother to get head coach Mike Armour's thoughts on the emotional game. More importantly than all that, to me at least, it was the first article on the Patch with my name on it. Despite the content of the article (which at the time I thought was up …

The highlight of this year's Party All Night Long for the Stoughton High Class of 2013 came June 7 at 3 a.m. with hypnotist Jim Spinnato making his annual appearance at PANL. He had close to 20 graduates shouting in excitement, throwing tantrums, smelling one another, and dancing to a number of hit songs as their classmates laughed along.  PANL is the annual alcohol-free and drug-free post-graduation bash held at the O'Donnell Middle School. Photos: Stoughton High Spring Sports Awards Night (2013)

More than 30 student-athletes were recently recognized by Stoughton High and the Hockomock League for their performance on and off the field of play.

The Stoughton High athletic community gathered Monday evening, June 10 at the SHS auditorium to celebrate the end of the spring sports season, and the end of the 2012-2013 year in sports at Stoughton High. More than 30 student-athletes were honored for their performance on and off the field this spring season. Awards for team MVP, sportsmanship, scholar athlete, Hockomock League All-Star and Hockomock League Honorable Mention, as well as awards for Outstanding Freshman and Triple Crown were presented. The players on each respective team vote for the team MVP and for the sportsmanship recipient. The Scholar Athlete award goes to the athlete on the team with the highest grade point average. Obituary: Alton Flynn, Beloved Retired Stoughton High Teacher

Alton Flynn taught at Stoughton High for two decades before retiring in 2007. He passed away June 8 at the age of 68.

Remembered for his warm and caring personality and devotion to his students, longtime Stoughton High teacher Alton Flynn passed away Saturday, June 8 after a long and difficult illness.  Flynn, 68, lived in Hanson, and was formerly of Holbrook. He was at Stoughton High from 1983 until his retirement in 2007, teaching in both the Business Education Department, and the Social Studies Department.  Prior to his teaching career, which included stops in Cohasset and Braintree before his two decades in Stoughton, Flynn served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  While at SHS, Flynn wrote the curriculum for and started the popular social studies elective, The American War in Vietnam. Five Stoughton High Class of 2013 Graduates Named Golden Knights

Stoughton High presented Golden Knight Awards to five members of the Class of 2013 at the annual Class Night exercises - Courtney Lowell, Debora Lumene, Rachel Mackness, Mark Moore and Diep Tran.

Continuing a tradition now in its 19th year, the Stoughton High School faculty presented Golden Knight Awards last Tuesday evening to five members of this year’s graduating class, who have "demonstrated outstanding qualities of character, leadership, and service to the school community." Courtney Lowell, Debora Lumene, Rachel Mackness, Mark Moore and Diep Tran were this year’s recipients. They were honored on the stage of the SHS auditorium during the Class Night celebration on June 4. Stoughton High Students Earn High Marks on Prestigious National Language Exams

More than 50 Stoughton High students received honors on national language exams - 23 on the Latin exam, 18 on the Spanish exam, and 15 on the French exam.

The following is from the Stoughton Public Schools: As has been tradition for many years now, Stoughton High School students took part in prestigious national language exams in Spanish, Latin, and French earning high marks in all three languages. The exams are a time-tested method for assessing proficiency in the language and they represent one way to gauge a student’s fluency level based on reading, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar. Because the exams are rigorous, they have long been used to prepare students for other national exams such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Exam, the SAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Stoughton High Class of 2013 Scholarship Winners

A list of scholarship winners announced at the Stoughton High Class of 2013 graduation.

The following is a list of scholarship winners announced at the Stoughton High Class of 2013 graduation, held Thursday evening, June 6. More than 100 students from the graduating Class of 2013 (259 students in total) received at least one scholarship. In her address at graduation, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Marguerite Rizzi said $243,690 had been awarded to the graduates in local scholarship money, including $104,800 from the Prone Family Foundation - $27,000 from the foundation and $77,800 in matching donations towards other scholarships as part of the "Dollars for Stoughton Scholars" program.  Scholarship and award winners announced at Class Night can be found here. Stoughton High School Graduates Class of 2013

Stoughton High held its 144th Commencement Exercises on Thursday, June 6.

The more than 250 members of the Stoughton High Class of 2013 gathered at the Stoughton High football field Thursday evening, June 6, along with family, friends, faculty and administration for the School's 144th Commencement Exercises. Two-hundred and fifty-nine (259) students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas, capping their high school careers. Of the 259, about 87 percent will be continuing their education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi said - including 64 percent at a four-year college. The Stoughton High Class of 2013 was accepted into 125 colleges and universities all across the country. Meet the Stoughton High Class of 2013's Top Graduates

Jessica Morse, Joy Liu, Tim McGrath, Niamh Fennessy, Alex Peixinho, Nick Keith, Brianna Shores, John Stewart-Racicot, Benjamin Call and Christina Solem make up the top 10 graduates (based on grade point average) in the SHS Class of 2013.

After four years of demanding coursework and a plethora of extra curricular activities, the top 10 students in Stoughton High's Class of 2013 are ready to cap a stressful, yet rewarding high school experience.  The Stoughton High Class of 2013 graduates Thursday evening, June 6, with more than 250 students set to receive their diplomas.  Jessica Morse is the class valedictorian, following in the footsteps of her older sister Kara, who was valedictorian of the SHS Class of 2011.
