Stoughton High Music Department Presents 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert

The Stoughton High Music Department's 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert takes place Friday, May 17 at SHS.

The following is from the Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department: The Stoughton High School Fine Arts Department will present its 2013 Spring Fling Art Show and Concert on Friday, May 17 at Stoughton High. The Art Gallery will be open at 6:30 p.m. The concert portion will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The concert will feature the SHS Choirs under the direction of Griffin Coombs and the SHS Bands directed by John Mange. The SHS Drum Club will be directed by Andrew Davey. Tickets will be available at the door only. Adults $5, seniors and children $3, with a family maximum of $10. Take a look at photos and video from the Stoughton High Tuesday Jazz Band, Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo performing at the 2013 Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. The prestigious annual event was held March 2 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The SHS Tuesday Jazz Band finished third in the Large Ensemble class out of 16 bands.  Best Performance for the SHS Jazz Combo went to Kevin McDonald; Best Performance for the SHS Jazz Choir went to Abbie Roane; and Best Performance for the SHS Tuesday Jazz Band went to David Elmowitz. These groups will be featured again at the Stoughton Music Department's Evening of Jazz, held March 13 at the Stoughton High auditorium. Auditions Coming Up for "Stoughton's Got Talent"

The Stoughton High Music Department, in collaboration with Parents of Performing Students, is sponsoring its 1st Annual "Stoughton's Got Talent" talent show. Auditions are March 11 and March 18.

The following is a press release from the Stoughton High Music Department:  The Stoughton High Music Department, in collaboration with Parents of Performing Students (POPS), is sponsoring its 1st Annual "Stoughton's Got Talent" talent show on Friday April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Stoughton High auditorium. If you sing, dance, play an instrument, play in a band, tell jokes, or do magic, this is the show for you! There are cash awards for the top three contestants - $150 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place and $75 for 3rd place. All residents of Stoughton and students of the public schools are welcome to participate. The Stoughton High School Music Department presented its 2012 Holiday Concert this past Friday evening (Dec. 14) at the Stoughton High auditorium. The concert featured the SHS Concert Choir and SHS Jazz Choir under the direction of Griffin Coombs as well as the SHS Concert Bands and SHS Tuesday Jazz Band, directed by John Mange. Stoughton High Jazz Combo and Choir Strike Gold

The Stoughton High School Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo recently performed at a competition in Worcester, with each group winning a gold medal.

The following is a press release from the Stoughton High Music Department: On April 4, the Stoughton High School Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo performed at the 2012 Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education High School Combo Choir Festival held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. The SHS Jazz Choir, directed by Griffin Coombs, earned a Gold Medal rating for their fine performance. Danisha Dumornay was recognized for her individual performance and received the "Outstanding Musicianship Award" for her vocal talents. The SHS Jazz Combo, under the direction of student director Michael Silveira, also earned a Gold Medal rating for their strong performance. Stoughton High Musicians Honored for Excellence at NYC Music Festival

The Stoughton High concert and jazz bands and concert and jazz choirs received a number of awards and honors at the Festivals of Music, a national competition held in New York City.

The following is a press release from the Stoughton High Music Department: On March 30, the Stoughton High Music Department traveled to New York City to participate in the Festivals of Music, a national competition featuring groups from Massachusetts, Vermont, Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. The members of the SHS Concert Band, Tuesday Jazz Band, Wednesday Jazz Band, Concert Choir, and Jazz Choir competed on Friday before a panel of collegiate judges and students from various other schools. The students of Stoughton High School were recognized for a high level of performance by the festival adjudicators and administrators.
