The Stoughton High cross country team ended the season competing at the MSTCA Invitational and the Division 3 Championships. Despite losing some top seniors, both the boys' and girls' are set to return a solid core next fall.

The Stoughton High boys' and girls' cross country team competed in its final meet this season, the 2012 MIAA Eastern Mass Division 3 Cross Country Championships in Wrentham this past Saturday. The week before, the teams competed at the MSTCA Invitational, also in Wrentham. Division 3 Championships The following information is from Coach Harvey Blonder and Coach Bob Clarke: For the boys', senior captain Wayne Barnaby took advantage of his last cross country race of his high school career by recording a personal best of 17:43. On the other end of the spectrum, the team's lone freshman Nick Quattrucci also polished off a highly successful season with a personal record (19:24, 4th best for a Stoughton runner). The girls' team, led by Amy Kelly's 10th place individual finish, finished fifth overall among the 12 squads there, and second among Davenport Division teams. Kelly, finished as one of the top runners in the Hockomock, and led the Stoughton girls at Borderland with a time of 20:08. Highlights from the Stoughton High volleyball, boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' cross country, and field hockey teams.
VOLLEYBALL In a back-and-forth match, the Stoughton High volleyball team pulled out a 3-1 win Wednesday against visiting Foxborough, improving to 10-4 on the season. Stoughton won the first set 29-27, fighting off four Foxborough set points. The Black Knights then fell behind 8-0 in the second set, but won eight of the next nine points to climb back into the set. Stoughton never led however, and Foxborough hung on, 25-21. Stoughton fell behind again in the third set, 9-3, but tied the set at 10, and ended up winning 25-23. In the fourth set, up two sets to one, coach Ken Gay spun his lineup, putting his players in different starting positions than in the first three sets, and the move worked out, with Stoughton cruising to a decisive 25-10…

The Stoughton High cross country teams competed at the McIntyre Twilight Meet in Barnstable on Saturday, with all 18 participants on the SHS boys' and girls' teams running personal bests. Coach Harvey Blonder (boys) and coach Bob Clarke (girls) provide the details: BOYS The course and the atmosphere again proved to be magic ingredients Saturday night at the Barnstable Fairgrounds. This meet which is in its second year and is one of only a handful in the country which have been held under the lights. It is a lightning fast course and the buzz from last year doubled the number of participants overall from the inaugural event. All 10 Stoughton boys who ran set personal records. After beating Mansfield, the Stoughton High volleyball team is one win away from clinching a postseason tournament berth. The boys' soccer team won its second straight on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the cross country teams were both edged by Canton.
VOLLEYBALL With Tuesday's 3-1 win over Mansfield at home, the Stoughton High volleyball team improves to 8-3 on the season and is just one win away from clinching a spot in the postseason tournament. After losing the first set 25-18, Stoughton came back and won the final three. The Black Knights won the second set 25-13. In the third set, Stoughton jumped out to a 14-4 lead, and led 24-20, just one point away from taking the set, but Mansfield made things interesting winning the next three points. Clinging to a 24-23 lead, Nicole Daniels tipped the ball over the net, giving Stoughton the 25-23 win. Stoughton cruised in the fourth set, winning 25-16. VOLLEYBALL The following is submitted by coach Ken Gay: On Friday, the Stoughton High volleyball team defeated an extremely tough King Philip squad 3 sets to 0. Each set was tight through the mid-point where Stoughton was able to string multiple service points together and claim victory at the end of each set. The victory was a total team effort with multiple star players. Stars of the match were Ashley Medeiros with 11 service points and 4 aces; Gabby Medina with 26 digs; Nicole Daniels with 18 kills and 4 blocks; and Emma Zuk with 21 assists. A great victory for Stoughton over a top level Hockomock League team. With the win, Stoughton improves to 7-3 and bounces back from a home loss to Canton on Wednesday. Stoughton's next match is …

The girls' and boys' teams competed at Sharon Sept. 24: The Stoughton High girls' cross country team ran their league record to 3-0 (4-0 overall) with a victory over Sharon 25-32 (with the lower score prevailing). The meet was held on Sharon's 2.8-mile course.
