VOLLEYBALL In a back-and-forth match, the Stoughton High volleyball team pulled out a 3-1 win Wednesday against visiting Foxborough, improving to 10-4 on the season. Stoughton won the first set 29-27, fighting off four Foxborough set points. The Black Knights then fell behind 8-0 in the second set, but won eight of the next nine points to climb back into the set. Stoughton never led however, and Foxborough hung on, 25-21. Stoughton fell behind again in the third set, 9-3, but tied the set at 10, and ended up winning 25-23. In the fourth set, up two sets to one, coach Ken Gay spun his lineup, putting his players in different starting positions than in the first three sets, and the move worked out, with Stoughton cruising to a decisive 25-10…

After beating Mansfield, the Stoughton High volleyball team is one win away from clinching a postseason tournament berth. The boys' soccer team won its second straight on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the cross country teams were both edged by Canton.
VOLLEYBALL With Tuesday's 3-1 win over Mansfield at home, the Stoughton High volleyball team improves to 8-3 on the season and is just one win away from clinching a spot in the postseason tournament. After losing the first set 25-18, Stoughton came back and won the final three. The Black Knights won the second set 25-13. In the third set, Stoughton jumped out to a 14-4 lead, and led 24-20, just one point away from taking the set, but Mansfield made things interesting winning the next three points. Clinging to a 24-23 lead, Nicole Daniels tipped the ball over the net, giving Stoughton the 25-23 win. Stoughton cruised in the fourth set, winning 25-16. The Stoughton High boys' soccer team beat Mansfield 2-1 on Friday. Stoughton freshman Kyle Silverman turned in an impressive effort in goal.
The Stoughton High boys' soccer team upset Mansfield Friday afternoon on the road, defeating the Hornets 2-1 for Stoughton's second victory of the season. An impressive defensive effort along with timely scoring allowed the Knights to come out victorious on an afternoon where all of Stoughton was mourning the loss of SHS senior David Wade. Wade, 17, died following a tragic accident on Sept. 29 and his funeral was held Friday morning. Stoughton got on the board in the first half on a goal by junior Chris Rego. After Mansfield tied the game 1-1, senior Pat Jackman scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 25th minute of the second half. Stoughton also benefited from a huge game by freshman goaltender Kyle Silverman. The Knights …

The Black Knights were back at it on Oct. 2, hosting Milford, falling in another close match, 4-3. Chris Rego, Mikey Cardoso and Mike Gallagher scored the goals in this back-and-forth, rain-soaked affair. Gallagher (Rego goal), Kevin Bernard (Cardoso goal) and Josh Mitchell (Gallagher goal) recorded the assists. Stoughton is 1-7 on the season.

After losses on Monday, the Stoughton High volleyball and boys' and girls' soccer teams are back in action Friday, while the field hockey team plays again on Thursday.
VOLLEYBALL The Stoughton High varsity volleyball team fell at Foxborough, 3-1, in a close match Monday afternoon. After losing the first set, Stoughton came back and won the second, but the Warriors won the final two to take the match. All three sets lost Stoughton were by just two points, the smallest margin of victory or defeat in volleyball. Starring for Stoughton in a losing effort were Emma Zuk with 36 assists, 20 digs, and 1 pancake; Ashley Medeiros with 17 digs and 7 kills; and Nicole Daniels with 21 kills. Stoughton is now 4-2 and will travel to Oliver Ames this Friday. Looking ahead to the Fall 2012 Stoughton High sports season.
With the start of the 2012-2013 school year comes the start of fall sports season. Led by a talented group of seniors, the Class of 2013 looks to lead the Stoughton High Black Knights on the field this fall, winter and spring. After adding Attleboro in the 2010-2011 school year and splitting into small (Davenport) and large (Kelly-Rex) divisions, the Hockomock League welcomes two new schools in 2012-2013 - Milford and Taunton. Milford will join Stoughton, Oliver Ames, Sharon, Canton and Foxboro in the Davenport Division, with the exception of football. Milford won't join the Hockomock in football until next school year. Meanwhile, Taunton joins Mansfield, King Philip, North Attleboro, Franklin and Attleboro in the Kelly-Rex Division. …

Led by new coach Martyn Emery, the Stoughton High Black Knights soccer team looks to improve and vie for a postseason berth.
Despite a youthful roster, the Stoughton high boys' soccer team returns a talented core, looking to make an improvement upon last year's one-win season. The Knights headlined by junior captain Michael Gallagher and senior captains Mike Paukner and Sheldon Oliveira have the potential to content for a spot in the state tournament. Last Saturday, less than 24 hours after their 1-1 tie against Sharon at home on Senior Day, the Stoughton High boys’ varsity soccer team took on an alumni squad of 15 players. The alumni roster featured current Stoughton High boys’ varsity soccer head coach Matt Bernstein, a 2002 graduate of SHS. The varsity and alumni squads played to a 1-1 draw. By the way, from what I hear, the varsity coach is also coaching the Freshman team...as a volunteer. No money in the budget to pay for a FR coach. Yet, they want to start new athletic programs. Where is the $$$ coming from. Seems like administration and AD still do not support this team, that represents the school and community in a very positive way.
