After Loss, Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Faces Difficult (But Not Impossible) Path to Postseason

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team fell 61-50 to Taunton Tuesday night. Stoughton (6-9) needs to finish at least 4-1 in order to make the postseason.

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team hung with Taunton, one of the top teams in the Hockomock League and in the state (ranked 20th in the latest ESPN Boston Boys' Basketbal Top 25 Poll), but fell 61-50 Tuesday at home as the Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter, with the Black Knights dropping to 6-9 on the season. Stoughton kept things close for most of the game, trailing 27-25 at the half. Midway through the third, Stoughton trailed 35-32 when Taunton went on a mini-run to take an eight-point lead with time winding down in the quarter. Mauro Oliveira hit a three-pointer, however, to make it a five-point game, with Stoughton behind 44-39 heading into the fourth. But another Taunton run opened up the game for good, with the Tigers …

Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Upset at King Philip

Looking to get back to the .500 mark, the Stoughton High boys' basketball team (6-8) instead lost to the now 2-12 King Philip Warriors Friday night on the road.

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team was in action Friday night, losing at King Philip, 67-60. With the loss, the Knights fall to 6-8 and need to go 4-2 in the remaining 6 games to qualify for the MIAA postseason tournament. King Philip entered the game with just a 1-12 record, but KP had a strong game all-around, playing well offensively and defensively. Rebounding was a major factor in the win for the Warriors Friday night. King Philip received strong games from Jimmy Layman (20 points) and Michael Pergola (18 points) in what was the second win of the season for the Warriors. Stoughton senior captain Joe Bunce-Grenon had a big game in his return after missing three games with a concussion. Bunce-Grenon had 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 …

Strong Second Quarter Leads Milford Past Stoughton High Boys' Basketball

The Stoughton High Boys' Basketball team lost 69-52 at Milford Tuesday night. A 27-point second quarter helped propel Milford to victory.

The Stoughton High basketball team was in action Tuesday night, losing at Milford, 69-52, to fall to 6-7 on the season. With the loss, Stoughton needs to win 4 of their last 7 games to qualify for the MIAA state tournament. Tuesday night was all Milford, who after a slow start in the first quarter for both teams, came out firing in the second quarter and never looked back. Up 8-4 after the first quarter, Milford took a 35-19 lead at the half and led 52-32 going into the fourth.  Stoughton showed heart throughout, not becoming discouraged and fighting back the entire course of the game against the now 13-1 Hockomock League Davenport Division leaders. Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Climbs Back to .500 Mark with Comeback Win Against Sharon

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team beat Sharon 58-55 Friday at home despite trailing the Eagles by eight points with just 5:15 to play in the game. Stoughton is now 6-6. Check out photos from the game in the media gallery of this article.

Wilder scored Stoughton's first four field goals of the fourth quarter, and Middleton hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 57 seconds left in the game and hit a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds left to cement the win. Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Earns 30-Point Win Against North Attleboro

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team picked up its fifth win of the season beating visiting North Attleboro 85-55 Tuesday night. Check out pictures of the players and cheerleaders in the media gallery of this article.

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team was in action Tuesday night to kick off the second half of the season, defeating visiting North Attleboro 85-55. With the win, the Knights improve to 5-6 and find themselves needing to get 5 more wins in the last 9 games to qualify for the MIAA state tournament. After a back and forth first quarter the Knights played with a sense of urgency throughout the game, in what was truly a must win situation for Stoughton. Stoughton led by six, 17-11 at the end of the first quarter, and then started to open things up, taking a 39-24 lead into the half, and a 61-39 lead after three quarters, before coming away with the 30-point win. Midseason Report: Stoughton High Boys' and Girls' Basketball Look to Make Postseason Push

A look back at the first half of the 2012-2013 season for the Stoughton High boys' and girls' basketball teams and a look ahead to the second half and what each squad needs to do to earn a postseason berth.

Last Friday's games vs. Oliver Ames marked the midway point in the 2012-2013 winter season for the Stoughton High boys' and girls' basketball teams. Both have played 10 games and both have 10 remaining. Here's a look back at the first half of the season for both teams and a look ahead to the second half and what each squad needs to do to earn a postseason berth. Both squads made the postseason last season and are looking to do so again this winter. After losing a strong core of players from last season's Division 2 South Sectional championship team, Stoughton was looking to find a new identity throughout the first half of the season. Despite a below .500 record Stoughton has shown flashes of a team that can make another run in the MIAA …

Stoughton High Boys' Basketball Can't Overcome Early Deficit at Oliver Ames

The Tigers built an early lead and never looked back, as they defeated the visiting Black Knights, 74-62, Friday night.

Oliver Ames and the Stoughton High boys' basketball team met three times last year, with two of the games resulting in blowout wins for the Black Knights, including a Division 2 South Sectional semifinal state tournament playoff game. On Friday evening, both squads squared off for the first time in roughly 10 months, and this time the Tigers managed to construct a lead, which they never relinquished, and went onto defeat the Black Knights, 74-62. Stoughton drops a key Hockomock League Davenport Division contest, falling to 4-6 on the season, while OA improves to 6-4. Nick Cidado paced the Tigers with 14 points; Andrew Reardon tallied 13 points, while St. Clair Ryan and Ryan Carney each recorded 12 points. “This was a good win for us,” said…

Despite Late Scare, Mansfield Outlasts Stoughton High Boys' Basketball

The Hornets beat the Black Knights 72-57 Tuesday in Mansfield, pulling away down the stretch.

While the final score may give the impression that Mansfield was in control for most of Tuesday night's game, the visiting Stoughton High boys' basketball squad was simply the team that wouldn’t go away. Despite trailing for most of the game, several runs by the Black Knights made the game a little harder for the Hornets to put away. “This league is too good to take anything lightly. You show up and you’re playing .500 teams and they can beat you,” Mansfield head coach Michael Vaughan said. “That’s how this league is.” Winning 72-57, the Hornets improve to 9-1 while Stoughton is now 4-5. "Valle Moment" Spurs Comeback Win for Stoughton High Boys' Basketball at Canton

With the win, the Knights improve to 4-4 on the season, and are currently on a two game winning streak, winning back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Stoughton High boys' basketball team beat visiting Foxborough, 68-55, Tuesday night, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Adding to the frustration, three of the four losses came in the final minutes of play. While it was only the seventh game of 20 regular season contests, the Black Knights were in need of a win in order to prevent the team from digging too deep of an early season hole. Stoughton delivered, responding with its most convincing performance of the season, a 68-55 win over a Foxborough squad that was 6-2 heading into the game.
