FRIENDS FOR SENIORS GOLF TOURNAMENT CANCELED:  The Executive Board of Stoughton's Friends For Seniors, including  Dennis McCarthy, who served as President, and his wife Lorraine, the group's Secretary, has resigned.  The new Executive Board of Friends For Seniors is led by former Selectman and SMAC Board member Bob Mullen as President. The new Vice President is Joe Araujo, and Treasurer is Florence Stearns. At a transitional meeting on March 20, no one was willing to run the scheduled golf tournament for this Fall.  Members of the board cited the large amount of work that it takes to put on a tournament like that.  The new board voted to suspend the tournament for 2012 and to revisit it for 2013.     The tournament funded many Friends for …

Upcoming Sammarco Roast Has all the Ingredients to be a Success

The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce is roasting Stoughton’s Mike Sammarco this Saturday evening, March 10 at the VFW Hall in town.

The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce is putting the final touches on the recipe for what should be another successful roast. After roasting its own Executive Director, Terry Schneider in 2009, the Chamber roasted Town Manager Francis T. Crimmins last year. This Saturday, March 10, the Chamber will roast Mike Sammarco, known for his years of work with Stoughton Babe Ruth Baseball and the Sons of Italy. “We decided to make it an annual thing and we met several months ago and I had come up with a couple of names—Mike’s was one of them—and everyone just loved the idea because he’s such a character,” Cindy Pazyra, the event chair, said. “I think people like [roasts] because they like to watch people poking fun at people, all the while knowing that…

AMAZING CHRISTMAS DINNER: Stoughton's senior citizens were treated to an amazing Christmas dinner Saturday afternoon, and the cost was a mere three dollars.  It comes from the hard work—and monetary contribution of a great organization called Stoughton Friends for Seniors.   Their President, Dennis McCarthy, thanked all the volunteers from his hard-working Board for once again presenting a delicious meal, raffles, and fun to a sold-out crowd of hundreds of Stoughton Seniors in the downstairs hall of the Immaculate Conception Church. The youth of the Town were also involved in a big way. More than 30 members of the National Honor Society at Stoughton High came to serve on Saturday, while nearly twenty came the night before to set up the …
