Randolph firefighters helped a Stoughton woman deliver a baby girl at the Randolph Fire Station Wednesday morning.
A Stoughton woman in labor ended up giving birth to a baby girl at Randolph's main fire station Wednesday morning, WCVB.com reports. The woman's husband was driving her to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, but the new mom's labor pains were so severe that the husband didn't think they would make it to the hospital before the baby was born so the couple stopped at the Randolph fire station, Randolph Firefighter Steve Glassman said, according to WCVB.com. A group of seven Randolph firefighters helped the mom with the delivery, which went smoothly, according to WCVB.com. Five people were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on Route 24 north in Stoughton on Friday, Feb. 1.
A crash including multiple vehicles on Route 24 northbound near Route 139 in Stoughton shortly before noon on Friday caused a "number of injuries," according to the Massachusetts State Police twitter account. Acting Deputy Fire Chief Greg Goldberg of the Stoughton Fire Department said the crash involved five vehicles and took place in the high speed lane just past the Route 139 interchange, on the Stoughton/Canton line. Three patients from one vehicle and two patients from another vehicle were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with minor injuries, Goldberg said. The Stoughton Fire Department put out a fire in a first floor unit of an apartment building on Porter St. Sunday evening, but despite minimal damage, a faulty alarm system prevented tenants from returning.
Stoughton Firefighters put out a closet fire in the first floor unit of an apartment building on Porter Street Sunday evening. But while there were no injuries and damage was minimal, the tenants from the three-story structure were not able to return to the building Sunday night because of a problem with the alarm system, which did not operate during the fire, Stoughton Fire Captain Doug Campbell said. The Stoughton Fire Department received a call at 6:11 p.m. Jan. 27 reporting a fire in a closet in a unit at 93 Porter St., Campbell said. The building is located directly behind the Freeman St. Fire Station in the downtown. January 28, 2013 marks the 18th anniversary of when Stoughton firefighter Victor Melendy died in the line of duty at a Rose street fire in 1995.
Remembering Victor Melendy (The following article by Mark Snyder is an updated version of an article which first ran on Stoughton Patch Jan. 28, 2011) On January 28, 1995, Stoughton lost Firefighter Victor C. Melendy in a deadly Saturday morning blaze on Rose Street. He was 47 years old. Melendy was a 23-year veteran of the Stoughton Fire Department, who was searching for people trapped inside a burning house when the blaze suddenly accelerated, fire officials said at the time. He was the second Stoughton firefighter killed in the line of duty in the department's 146-year history. The first was Edward J. Kelleher, killed Dec. 21, 1966, while battling a blaze. Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff shares the story of how he helped save a man in cardiac arrest this past Friday afternoon while on vacation in St. Thomas.
Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff’s recent vacation in St. Thomas ended in nothing less than heroism when he saved the life of a fellow vacationer in cardiac arrest this past Friday afternoon. Dolloff and his wife, Teresa, were on vacation with three other couples. They went back to the hotel for lunch, but the Dolloffs decided to stay on the beach. “I was in the right place at the right time”, said Dolloff, who returned Saturday evening from the vacation. It was Friday, around 1 p.m. while Dolloff and his wife, Teresa, sat on Frenchman’s Cove Beach that Dolloff noticed commotion in the water. “I heard someone yell, “I can’t pull him in”...[that’s when] I threw my stuff down and ran to the water,” he recalls. Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff performs C.P.R. on a man while on vacation in St. Thomas.
The Stoughton Fire Department is reporting via the Stoughton Fire Rescue Facebook page that Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff saved a man's life Friday, while on vacation in St. Thomas. Dolloff was on the beach when he saw the man in cardiac arrest. He performed C.P.R. and the end result was positive, according to the Facebook post. The man was awake and alert Friday night, the post states.

The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a two-alarm garage fire on Wales Ave. in Stoughton Friday morning.
The Stoughton Fire Department was on scene of a large garage fire at 21 Wales Ave. (side street off Plain St.) Friday morning. The call for the fire came in at 10:22 a.m. on Jan. 11. The two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the garage, which is not attached to the nearby home. Captain Scott Breen of the SFD said the garage is considered to be a total loss. No vehicles were parked in the garage, but personal property was stored there, Breen said. One firefighter was treated for a knee injury, but otherwise there were no other medical issues, Breen said. Flames rose high above the garage and when the fire was knocked down, heavy smoke continued to billow. Fire crews did not leave the scene until 1:25 p.m., three hours after arriving, …

A fire at 19 Churchill Road in Stoughton caused severe damage to the property, although there were no injuries.
A two-alarm fire caused severe damage to a single family home in Stoughton Monday night, according to Stoughton Fire Captain Bob O'Donnell. Group 4, under the command of Captain O'Donnell, responded to a report of a bedroom fire at 19 Churchill Ave. (side road off Lincoln St.) at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 7. The fire started in a first floor bedroom in the front of the home and spread to both levels. Upon arrival crews could see heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the 1.5-story Cape style home, O'Donnell said.
