Stoughton Fire Captain Honored with 'Hero Award' for Response to Boston Marathon Bombings

Capt. Robert O'Donnell of the Stoughton Fire Department was given the award in front of a packed house at Good Samaritan Medical Center Monday night.

A Stoughton Firefighter was given given a “Hero Award” in honor of EMS week Monday night at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Capt. Robert O'Donnell was recognized for his service and quick response during the Boston Marathon bombings. His son, Bobby O'Donnell III, a 2012 Oliver Ames High School graduate, was running in the race and O'Donnell was quick to spring to action as a spectator at the finish line. According to a press release submitted by Good Samaritan, O'Donnell shared vivid pictures, videos and audio tapes from the finish line Monday night. Single-Car Rollover on Route 24 in Stoughton Sends Three to Hospital

The Stoughton, Avon and Randolph Fire Departments responded to a single car rollover on Route 24 northbound near the Route 139 overpass Wednesday morning.

A single-car rollover Wednesday morning on Route 24 northbound in Stoughton near the Route 139 overpass sent three to the hospital, according to Stoughton Fire Captain Bob O'Donnell. The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m.  The vehicle, a SUV (Jeep), was traveling northbound, and was cut off by another vehicle, causing it to rollover, O'Donnell said. The operator was ejected through the moonroof, and ended up by the guardrail in the median. She was transported to Boston Medical Center by an Avon ambulance, O'Donnell said. The other two passengers in the car, one in the front and one in the rear, were not ejected. The Stoughton Fire Department also transported them to Boston Medical Center. Stoughton Fire Dept. Honors McNamara, Goldberg, Fowler at Badge Pinning, Swearing-In Ceremony

Three Stoughton Firefighters, Lt. Jay McNamara and new firefighter/paramedics Jeremiah Fowler and Justin Goldberg, were honored at Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting during a swearing-in and badge pinning ceremony.

Three Stoughton Firefighters, Lt. Jay McNamara and new firefighter/paramedics Jeremiah Fowler and Justin Goldberg, were honored at Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting during a swearing-in and badge pinning ceremony.   Town Clerk Cheryl Mooney administered the oath to each firefighter, and family members had the honor of pinning the badges before a large gathering in the Great Hall of Town Hall.  McNamara was sworn in as a permanent lieutenant, after serving as an acting lieutenant. He joined the department in 2004 and oversees the EMS operations.  His wife, Erica, and two children, Ava and Jay, helped pin his badge.  The youngest of nine children, his older sister, Donna, the second youngest, was recently sworn in as the first …

Stoughton Fire Department Assists Putting Out Two-Alarm Fire on Bay Road in Easton

A two-alarm fire ripped through a garage on Bay Road in Easton Monday afternoon. The Stoughton Fire Department provided mutual aid.

A two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to a garage and house on Bay Road in Easton Monday afternoon. The Stoughton Fire Department was one of four area departments to assist Easton Fire crews in fighting the blaze.   Thanks in part to two good Samaritans, though, nobody was injured. Easton Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said Easton residents Mike Boyd and Bob Cummings were driving by 331 Bay Road when they saw the entire garage of the house engulfed in flames. Resident Robert Thorton was outside calling to his wife Anthea, who was inside the house. She wasn't hearing him and was unaware of the fire to the adjacent garage. Car Crashes into Utility Pole on Chemung St. in Stoughton, Sends One to Hospital

A single car crash on Chemung St. in Stoughton Friday night sent the operator of the car (the lone occupant in the vehicle) to a Boston hospital. Power was knocked out in the area.

A man was transported to a Boston hospital Friday night after his vehicle struck a utility pole on Chemung St. The single car crash occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on April 5 near the intersection of Chemung St. and Joanne Rd., according to the Stoughton Fire Department.  The car, a Ford Explorer, struck the utility pole, shearing the pole off at its base, Stoughton Fire Department Captain Robert O'Donnell said.  The pole fell parallel to the road, but brought a large wire down across Chemung St.  The operator was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was transported by the Stoughton Fire Department via ambulance to Boston Medical Center, according to O'Donnell.  The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, O'Donnell said, noting the…

Stoughton's Justin Goldberg Set to Graduate Fire Academy, Join Father as Stoughton Firefighter

Stoughton's Justin Goldberg will be one of 68 local firefighters to graduate from the State Firefighting Academy on Friday, where he will then join his father, Acting Deputy Chief Greg Goldberg, working for the Stoughton Fire Department.

Stoughton's Justin Goldberg will be one of 68 local firefighters to graduate from the State Firefighting Academy on Friday, where he will then join his father, Acting Deputy Chief Greg Goldberg, working for the Stoughton Fire Department.  Goldberg, 23, a 2007 graduate of Stoughton High School, already comes to the SFD with plenty of experience, having worked for the Norfolk Fire Department for a little more than a year and as a paramedic for an ambulance service before that. He's also been a per diem dispatcher for the Stoughton Fire Department prior to being hired full-time by Stoughton and sent to the 12-week Fire Academy. The Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit, played March 9 in Canton, aided the family of Canton Police Officer Ralph Centeno, who recently passed away. Take a look at photos of the Stoughton PD/FD in action in the media gallery of this article.

Typically, when the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments trade in their guns and hoses for hockey skates they are on opposing teams, but this past Saturday, the SPD and SFD joined forces at the Metropolis (Ponkapoag) Ice Rink in Canton for the Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit.  Members of the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments played on a split-squad team against the Randolph Police and Fire Departments. That game was followed by the Canton Police and Fire Departments taking on the Boston Police. Randolph and Boston both skated to victory.  All proceeds from this year's event went to the family of Canton Police Officer Rafael Centeno, who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. Stoughton Police, Fire Departments Joining Forces for Charity Hockey Game

The Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit, played March 9 in Canton, will aid the family of Canton Police Officer Ralph Centeno, who recently passed away.

While later this month they will go head-to-head in the annual Guns 'N Hoses hockey game, the Stoughton Police and Fire Departments are joining forces this upcoming weekend to help the family of a fellow first responder.  On Saturday, March 9, the Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit will take place at the Metropolis (Ponkapoag) Ice Rink at 2167 Washington St./Route 138 in Canton at 8 p.m. All proceeds from this year's event will go to the family of Canton Police Officer Rafael Centeno, who recently passed away. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door. The benefit will include a chuck-a-puck contest, auction items, raffles, a live DJ and prizes. Meanwhile, WBZ reported on its broadcast that Stoughton had 31.5 inches of snow. It was the second highest snow accumulation total WBZ collected, only surpassed by West Boylston, which WBZ said received 34.5 inches.   The town, for the most part, was effectively shut down Saturday as DPW crews and residents began the cleanup process.
