Joyce Husseini and Carol Brown each won a three-year term on the Stoughton School Committee. T.J. Recupero was the lone candidate for a three-year seat on the Stoughton Board of Selectmen.
In the only contested race this election cycle for the annual Stoughton Town Election, Joyce Husseini and Dr. Carol Brown each won three-year terms on the Stoughton School Committee. There were four candidates vying for two seats on the committee in the April 30 Town Election. Husseini, the incumbent, came in first with 1,783 votes, and Brown came in second with 1,377 votes. Brown edged Patricia MacNeil, who came in third with 1,317 votes. Debra Cote came in fourth with 1,191 votes. Overall, 3,750 voters cast a ballot in the town election, or 20.9 percent of the 17,964 total registered voters in town. Husseini's seat represented one of the two seats up this election. Ed Markey (Democrat) and Gabriel Gomez (Republican) won their respective party's primary in Tuesday's special election, but Stoughton voters preferred Stephen Lynch on the Democratic side and Michael Sullivan on the Republican side.
Stoughton voters bucked the state trend in both the Democratic and Republican primaries for U.S. Senate in Tuesday's special election. While the state backed Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) by a comfortable margin over Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston), Stoughton voters taking a Democrat ballot preferred Lynch to Markey by a 2 to 1 margin. Lynch received 2,025 votes in Stoughton to Markey's 1,030. He carried all eight precincts in town. On the Republican side, voters statewide picked Gabriel Gomez by a comfortable margin over former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state representative Dan Winslow. A look at some statistics and trends from the 2012 Presidential Election (held November 6) here in Stoughton and statewide.
With the 2012 Presidential Election in the books, Stoughton voters, like voters statewide, supported President Barack Obama, the Democratic incumbent, in his quest for reelection, voting for the President by a wide margin over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee. Stoughton also went the statewide trend in supporting Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic Party nominee, over Republican incumbent, Senator Scott Brown. Many communities in Massachusetts voted for Warren. What is noteworthy, however, is that just 11 communities in the Southeastern part of the state, Stoughton included, switched from backing Brown in 2010 during his Special Election race against Attorney General Martha Coakley, a Democrat, to Warren in …

Kids Voting Stoughton Election Results: Stoughton students split their ticket supporting President Barack Obama, a Democrat, and Senator Scott Brown, a Republican, taking part in Kids Voting Stougton's mock election Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Thanks to Kids Voting Stoughton, more than 1,000 Stoughton students in grades K-12 also got to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6 - and they showed an independent streak, differing from their parents and other adult voters in Stoughton (and statewide) in one key race. Their votes didn't count towards the official election results, but this mock voting program simulated the adult voting experience. Kids Voting Stoughton was held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the various polling locations around town, with 1,391 ballots cast. Results from the 2012 Annual Town Election in Stoughton, held Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
Bob O'Regan and Cynthia Walsh won three-year seats on the Stoughton Board of Selectmen, Tuesday night holding off Joe Mokrisky and John Anderson. April 10 marked the annual Town Election in Stoughton. O'Regan, an attorney, topped the ticket with 1,359 votes. Walsh, an incumbent seeking reelection, finished in second with 1,327 votes. Mokrisky came in third with 1,008 votes. Anderson, the other incumbent, finished with 939 votes. Dr. Erdem Ural won a three-year seat on the School Committee, finishing ahead of longtime member Allan Mills. Ural received 1,253 votes, while Mills finished with 1,132 votes.
