PLANET MIKEY CONQUERS STOUGHTON: Mike Adams, creator and host of Planet Mikey on WEEI sports talk radio (93.7 FM in Boston and 103.7 FM in Providence), was the featured speaker at the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at the N.E. Sinai Hospital and Rehabilitation Center on Monday night.   Adams features a lot of self-deprecating humor ("I look just like the guy you have in produce," he quipped to the Stop & Shop contingent in the crowd), and had the audience laughing hysterically. Adams said he was thrilled to be in Stoughton.  “It’s a manly-sounding town. It’s not like Beverly, or Seekonk,” he joked. He said he just loved radio. “Radio beats working. I talk sports. ABOUT TOWN: Stoughton Mourns Loss of Billy Hammel, Longtime Resident and DPW Employee

William P. “Billy” Hammel, Jr., 62, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at his home in East Falmouth on Sunday, Dec. 23. The Stoughton High graduate (Class of 1968) spent most of his life living and working in Stoughton. He worked for the Stoughton Department of Public Works for nearly 40 years, before his retirement as Assistant DPW Superintendent in 2010. Hammel served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Hammel was a member of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton. Friends say he enjoyed fishing, boating, NASCAR races, beaches, swimming and spending precious time with his beloved family. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra, and his children, Jason W. Hammel of Brockton, Erik E. Hammel of Troy, N.Y. and …

A CRAPPY CONTEST! The student-athletes on the Stoughton High football and Canton High football teams will be the featured players on the SHS football field Thanksgiving morning, but a couple days later, on Saturday, Nov. 24 cows will take over Stoughton High School's football field! At 1 p.m., the field will be divided into grids and tickets are being sold allowing you to purchase one of these special squares of grid, grass and soil. Cows will then be allowed to wander on the field, and whoever owns the grid that the cow poops on first is the big winner of $3,000. The second cow's deposit will result in a $1,000 prize! This fundraiser will help support the Stoughton High School Class of 2013, and will let two lucky players strike pay dirt…

Stoughton DPW Setting Up Post-Hurricane Sandy Brush Disposal Center

Have brush and branches in your yard after Hurricane Sandy hit on Monday? The Stoughton DPW will be setting up a brush disposal center for residents this Saturday.

The following is a message from the Stoughton Department of Public Works: In order to help residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Public Works Department will have the Gay Street storage yard (behind Meads Meadow) open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 3.  This will be the only day and only means for disposal of brush and branches.

Stoughton's Guide to Hurricane Sandy

The Town of Stoughton Emergency Management Team issued a public service announcement with tips to follow before, during and after the storm.

Editor's Note: Hurricane Sandy is projected to make landfall in the New Jersey area, but it is such a large storm New England will be impacted as well. According to the WHDH/Channel 7 weather forecast, expect "increasing rain and wind through the day" on Monday. The forecast continued: "Worst part of storm is likely from noon until 9 p.m. [on Monday]. Temps in the mid 60s. 1-3" of rain and wind gusts between 40-60mph - perhaps near 70mph outer Cape/islands.
