Hartman Sworn In as Stoughton's Next Town Manager

After being officially sworn in Dec. 21, Stoughton's new Town Manager Michael Hartman was sworn in before a public audience at the Jan. 8 Board of Selectmen's Meeting.

Photos in the gallery by Mark Snyder and Jeffrey Pickette. *** Michael Hartman, Stoughton's new Town Manager, was officially sworn in by Town Clerk Cheryl Mooney Dec. 21, but was sworn in again ceremonially before a public audience Tuesday night, Jan. 8 in the Great Hall of Stoughton's Town Hall at the start of the board of selectmen's Meeting. Mooney once again presided over the swearing-in. Hartman, a Canton resident, emerged as the selectmen's finalist after a lengthy search for a permanent town manager. He started as Stoughton's Town Manager Dec. 17. He was previously town manager in Jaffrey, NH (2007-2012). Stoughton Selectmen Approve Licenses for Mediterranean and Thai Restaurants

Chicken Kebab, a Mediterranean/Turkish fast food style restaurant, and Rukmae, which will serve Thai cuisine, will both be located at different ends of Washington St. in Stoughton.

The Stoughton Board of Selectmen approved the common victualler licenses for a pair of new restaurants on Washington St. in Stoughton at their meeting Tuesday night - Chicken Kebab, a Mediterranean/Turkish fast food style restaurant, and Rukmae, which will serve Thai cuisine. Chicken Kebab, owned by Ali Aykurt, will be in the downtown at the former Kabob House location at 756 Washington St. Home to a handful of different restaurants in recent years, the Kabob House opened in the spring of 2010 but was forced to close when heavy snow collapsed the roof of the building next door back in January 2011, which subsequently caused damage to the Kabob House. Repairs were made but the restaurant space remained vacant, until now. Signs are up for …

Stoughton's Recupero First to Announce Candidacy for Open Seat on Board of Selectmen

Stoughton attorney T.J. Recupero pulled papers to run for a seat on the Stoughton Board of Selectmen in the April 2013 Town Election after incumbent John Stagnone announced he would not seek reelection.

Editor's Note: With Selectman John Stagnone's decision not to run for reelection in the April Town Election, Stoughton attorney T.J. Recupero announced his candidacy and is the first person to officially express interest in what is now an open seat this election cycle. His announcement of his candidacy is below. Stoughton Selectmen Chair Stagnone Won't Seek Reelection; Announces Plans to Lease Theatre

Selectmen Chair John Stagnone made the announcement that he won't seek reelection at Tuesday night's Selectmen's meeting. He and his wife have entered into a lease of the State Theatre building with the plans to renovate and reopen the downtown landmark.

John Stagnone, chairman of the Stoughton Board of Selectmen, announced at Tuesday night's selectmen's meeting that he would not be seeking reelection to the Board in this upcoming April's Town Election. While not running again, Stagnone, also the president of Stoughton Media Access Corporation (SMAC), still plans to be visible in town. Stagnone said he and his wife, Roberta, have entered into a long-term 20-year lease of the State Theatre building on Washington Street. Stagnone, first elected to the Board in 2010, has served as chairman since April of 2011. His three-year term expires in April 2013. Stoughton School Department will Comply with Town Accountant's Audit Request

Stoughton School Committee Chair Deborah Sovinee and Superintendent of Stoughton Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi issued a statement saying the "Stoughton School District has no reservations about a payroll audit."

TOWN ACCOUNTANT PLANS TO AUDIT SCHOOLS: On December 14, Stoughton Town Accountant Bill Rowe informed the school department, through an email to Stoughton Public Schools Finance Director Jessica Denison, that he would like to perform an audit of the school's payroll operation on Wednesday or Thursday this coming week. He said the request came as a result of "an unfortunate action on the part of selectmen," but that their "concerns are understandable given the continued refusal by the School Department to provide our office with certain employment contracts." He told Denison that Susan Herman, Internal Auditor for the town, and he would perform the audit, adding, "I will provide you a list on Monday of the preliminary information that we …
