This past Saturday afternoon, hundreds flocked to BJ's Wholesale Club in Stoughton to meet the man who helped lead the Boston Red Sox to the storied franchise's only two World Series titles since 1918. Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona was as the Stoughton BJ's at 901 Technology Center Dr. for a book signing. Monro Muffler Brake reaches agreement with U.S. Labor Department to protect workers against hydraulic lift hazards. This stems from a 2011 incident in which a lift failure caused a car to fall to the ground at the company's Stoughton location.

The following is from a U.S. Department of Labor/OSHA Regional News Release: In September 2011, the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Monro Muffler Brake Inc.'s Stoughton location for improperly inspecting and maintaining hydraulic lifts, as well as other hazards, following an April 2011 incident in which a lift failure caused a car to fall to the ground. As a result, Monro Muffler Brake Inc., which operates a chain of more than 800 stores that provide automotive repair and tire services throughout the eastern United States, including one in the Stoughton BJ's at 901 Technology Center Dr., has reached an enterprise-wide settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor in which it will …

Golf Clinics for Kids and Veterans Bob Beach, PGA Professional, will be teaching summer golf clinics for girls and boys, ages 8-16, in a pair of two four-week sessions at Cedar Hill Golf Course on Park Street in Stoughton. The cost is $40 for the four week session. All checks are to be made out to the Jimmy Fund. July sessions meet on Friday the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th. Tennis Courts Update At the June 26 School Committee meeting, Joel Harding, the Supervisor of Support Services for the Stoughton Public Schools, said the project to resurface the tennis courts at Stoughton High is "moving forward slowly but surely." He said work is currently being done. The surface of the old courts has been removed and a leveling base and coat of asphalt has been applied. A second coat of asphalt still needs to be applied, Harding said. Right now, there is a smooth blacktop surface with no nets. The Stoughton DPW has been helping with this project.
