Megan Crimmins and Emma Zuk were selected to represent Stoughton High at last Friday's National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2013, held at Faneuil Hall, Boston.
Three sport athletes and standout individuals and leaders on and and off the field of play, Stoughton High seniors Megan Crimmins and Emma Zuk were selected to represent SHS at the National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2013, held Feb. 1 at Faneuil Hall in Boston. It was the 27th annual gathering. Each school across the state was invited to send two female athletes who are "positive, contributing members [to] both their teams and their school." "I don't think we could have made a better choice than Emma Zuk and Megan Crimmins," said Janet Sullivan, longtime Stoughton High varsity girls' basketball and softball coach and K-12 STEM Curriculum Administrative Supervisor for the schools. "They exemplify all that we expect from our athletes here…

Despite a loss in their first meet, Stoughton High's track team could be a force.
With one meet down and another coming up this Saturday (12/18), the Stoughton High track team is already running on all cylinders. Despite a tough loss to Oliver Ames, the 0-1 Black Knights are focused on getting back on the winning track. The team is run by two head coaches: Harvey Blonder who handles the boys' team and Bob Clarke who manages the girls'. "The Hock's tough," Blonder said at practice last week mentioning that the new Hockomock League's alignment will hopefully help their record. With such a massive team it can be hard to organize everyone. The team is comprised of about 50 boys and 50 girls. They all address Coach B. affectionately as just "Blonder." Even in the bitter cold that marks the beginning of the track season, the…

The Stoughton High School swim team hopes to take a challenging season head on.
In her second year at the helm of the Stoughton High swim team head coach Jennifer Kelly is focused on continuing a long climb in the Hockomock. "A lot of our swimmers are trying the sport for the first time," she said in a phone interview, "we really have to start from scratch." The co-ed team had a tough season last year. The girls' squad went 2-7 while the boys mustered one win in nine meets. Coach Kelly emphasized how each year is about improving one step at a time. "Last year we made a lot of progress," she said, "However we have a lot of room for improvement." This marks the second year as head coach for the AP Biology teacher, having served for two years as the team's assistant coach. Kelly is assisted by Chris Brady, the Black …

With a new coach this young team looks to step up in the Hock.
Underneath Stoughton High School, there is a dank maze of whitewashed corridors connecting locker rooms, trainer's offices and supply closets. After a few minutes you get used to that locker room smell—decades of damp, concentrated sweat crusted onto tile floors and spread by the warm air from industrial-sized heaters. This is where Stoughton High wrestling practice begins. "Usually, we start with 10-15 minutes of stairs," first year coach Justin Leonard explained gesturing towards the 20-plus adolescents gasping their way up and down a staircase at full speed, "as a little warm-up," he added without irony. Once school ends at 2:12 p.m. student-athletes have a brief period to check in with teachers and collect their things. Then they …
