Stoughton High Girls' Basketball Comes up Short at Sharon

The Black Knights had a lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Eagles pulled ahead and came away with a three-point win Friday night in Sharon.

With the still short-handed Stoughton High girls' basketball team up 41-35 heading into the fourth quarter, Sharon hit a series of deep three-pointers to erase the Stoughton lead and earn a 52-49 victory Friday night in Sharon. "We forced them to go to the outside and they do have great outside shooters and that eventually is what got us," Stoughton coach Janet Sullivan said. "We let it get away from us in the last quarter when we let them take three deep three-pointers and they hit all of them, so give them credit," Sullivan added. Sharon hit a total of five three-pointers in the period, accounting for 15 of the team's 17 fourth quarter points. Stoughton High Girls’ Basketball Beats Sharon on Senior Night, Punching Postseason Ticket

The Black Knights earned a 46-40 win over the Eagles at home Friday evening. With the win, Stoughton (10-5) clinches a spot in the postseason tournament.

Junior Nicole Daniels was succinct in describing how she felt about her team clinching a postseason tournament berth. “Whooo!” the Stoughton center exclaimed in a postgame interview. In a game of runs, the Black Knights girls’ basketball team had the two largest, and as a result, beat Sharon, 46-40, on Friday, improving to 10-5, giving Stoughton a win on senior night, and most importantly securing the team a spot in the state tournament. “Our team hasn’t made tournament in a long time, so we’re extremely excited,” senior Chrystal Holland said. “It’s great, it’s like the best feeling in the world to not only have a senior night, but win.” “[Holland] is a four-year starter and it’s the first time she’s made [the postseason tournament] so I’m…

Stoughton High Girls’ Basketball Beats Sharon in OT

Eagles overcome early 14-point deficit, but Stoughton wins, 48-42.

The Sharon High varsity girls basketball team’s five-game winning streak ended Tuesday night in overtime. Visiting Stoughton outscored Sharon 6-0 in the four-minute overtime to win, 48-42. It was Sharon's second overtime loss of the season. The Eagles fall to 5-3, while the Black Knights improve to 5-4, already matching last season’s win total (5-13).  Stoughton has now won three of its last four and has notched back-to-back victories for the first time this season. Stoughton senior co-captain and forward Chrystal Holland scored four of her team’s six points in overtime. And her basket tied the score at 42 with about 2:20 left in regulation.
