A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.
If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

The Stoughton High Football team is 9-1, but is eliminated from postseason contention heading into the final game of the season. None of that matters right now, however, as the team is focused on beating rival Canton in the annual Thanksgiving showdown.
Down, but not out. A cliche used in sports to describe a situation when a there is a slight, albeit improbable chance of pulling off a given task. Out, but not down might be a good way to describe the Stoughton High football team's current situation, however, heading into its annual Thanksgiving Day showdown with rival Canton Thursday at 10 a.m. at Stoughton High. Stoughton is eliminated from postseason contention, despite a 9-1 record, but is still fired up to play Canton on Thanksgiving. Stoughton will be going for its eighth-straight Thanksgiving win, a win streak which dates back to 2005. It's a series Stoughton has dominated since 1995, winning 15 of the last 17 matchups. A win will also give Stoughton a 10-1 record, which would be …

This Friday night, the 8-1 Black Knights travel to Bridgewater-Raynham, still considered one of the best in the state, despite a 5-4 record. Meanwhile, Foxborough and Sharon play Saturday in a game that could extend or end Stoughton's playoff hopes.
With the Stoughton High football team's 26-8 win against Attleboro last Friday at home, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Friday's road contest against Bridgewater-Raynham (5-4) at 7 p.m. Stoughton is 8-1 heading into the game. 1. Dan Eckler, Touchdown Machine - Quarterback Dan Eckler has come up huge for Stoughton the last two games, as the Knights have started to pull away from a run-heavy offense into a more balanced attack. The team has been counting on Eckler to pass a lot more and he is delivering for the team. Last Friday against Attleboro, Eckler went 8 for 12 logging 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, all of which were to different receivers. He has six touchdowns (five passing, …

A recap of Week 8 football action in the Hockomock League.
While one of the Hockomock League's divisions has a somewhat clear playoff picture, the other is chaotic and wide-open, of course setting up what should be a thrilling final three weeks of the season. After week 8, Sharon, Stoughton and Foxborough have the most realistic path to a Davenport Division (small schools) title and with it a Division 3 playoff berth. The division title is based on a team's four-game division record at season's end. At 2-0 in division play, Sharon is in the driver's seat and Stoughton and Foxborough, both at 2-1, are right behind. Sharon has a head to head win over Stoughton and Stoughton has a head to head win over Foxborough. Sharon and Foxborough play Nov. 10. With Mansfield and Franklin both losing in week 8…

Photos from the Stoughton High football team's game at Sharon on Oct. 20.
Take a look at photos from the Stoughton High football team's game at Sharon Saturday afternoon, posted in the media gallery. Sharon upset Stoughton 16-14 with Sean Asnes scoring the game-winning touchdown with just 11 seconds left in the game. Stoughton falls to 6-1 with the loss (1-1 in the Davenport Division), while Sharon improves to 6-1 (2-0 in the Davenport Division). Frankie Morris and Aaron Mack scored the touchdowns for Stoughton. Both touchdowns were set up by Sharon turnovers. Andrew Kelly had a 52-yard interception return to set up the Morris touchdown drive, and Tim Porter had a 20-yard fumble return to set up the Mack touchdown. Stoughton will look to bounce back at Oliver Ames Friday, Oct. 26. For a complete recap from the …
A recap of Week 7 football action in the Hockomock League.
Heading into week 7, it was fair to say King Philip and Stoughton, both undefeated, were the favorites in the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex and Davenport Divisions, respectively. But after a crazy Saturday of Hockomock League football, filled with upsets and shootouts, new favorites have emerged. Canton had a week 7 bye, but all the other teams had division games, which meant all games had direct playoff implications. The division winners from the Davenport and Kelly-Rex advance to the postseason. In the Davenport, Stoughton fell at Sharon, 16-14, after Sean Asnes scored the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. The win put Sharon in the Davenport driver's seat with a perfect 2-0 record. Stoughton is 1-1. Foxborough, meanwhile …
The Stoughton High football team lost 16-14 at Sharon Saturday afternoon with the Eagles scoring the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. Stoughton, previously unbeaten, falls to 6-1 as Sharon claims Davenport Division lead.
Photos by Justin Braga/Jeffrey Pickette; click here for a complete photo gallery (50+ photos). *** The Stoughton High football team led at Sharon for all but 11 seconds, but unfortunately for the Black Knights those 11 seconds were the final ones. Sharon upset visiting Stoughton 16-14 Saturday afternoon, after Sean Asnes scored a last-second touchdown. It was the first loss of the season for Stoughton (6-1). Meanwhile Sharon improves to 6-1, bouncing back from last week's 43-0 loss at King Philip. Half of Sharon's six wins are the result of fourth quarter comebacks. Trailing Stoughton 14-10 with 3:50 left in the fourth quarter, Sharon got the ball back at its own 21 yard line, after forcing the Black Knights to punt. A heavy dose of Asnes …
