CHRISTMAS FOR THE VETERANS: The second Christmas Party put on for hospitalized veterans at the Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital by AMVETS District 6, was held last Thursday, Dec. 22, and there were plenty of familiar faces in the crowd. District 6 is made up of members from the Stoughton and Randolph AMVETS Posts. Along with serving ice cream, cake and drinks, presents were handed out to all the veterans.  In addition to Christmas parties, District 6 throws ice cream parties at the Brockton VA Hospital twice a month, hosts off-station parties for the patients at the Randolph AMVETS Post, and puts on an annual summer barbecue.  Pictured in the photo gallery (left to right) are: Bernie Planeta, District 6 Commander; Fred Tofteroo, …

Shaloh House, YMCA Celebrate Chanukah

The Shaloh House Chabad held Menorah lightings at the Stoughton YMCA and at Cobb’s Corner on Dec. 21, the second night of Chanukah.

Students in the YMCA’s afterschool program (grades K-7) and community members gathered in the lobby of the Stoughton YMCA Wednesday evening as Shaloh House Chabad Rabbi Mendel Gurkow led a Chanukah celebration on the second night of the eight-day Jewish holiday. Rabbi Gurkow told the story of Chanukah and led those in attendance in reciting the traditional prayers while lighting the Menorah. The children also sang Chanukah songs and ate Chanukah gelt (edible chocolate coins).   Following the celebration at the YMCA, Rabbi Gurkow lit the eight-foot tall Menorah at the Shell Station in Cobb’s Corner, at the intersection of Stoughton, Sharon and Canton. According to the Shaloh House Chabad website:   On Chanukah, we celebrate the miraculous …
