What would you like to see done with the former state theater/Stoughton Cinema Pub in the downtown?
Drive around Stoughton and you'll notice a number of empty storefronts and buildings. We're continuing a new series titled "Visions for Vacancies." We'll showcase an empty storefront and ask you what should take up the space. Last week we asked what you would like to see done with the former Stoughton Groomers and Missy's Puppyland location on Park Street. This week, we turn our attention to the former state theater/Stoughton Cinema Pub on Washington Street in the downtown. The State Theater opened in 1927 and closed as the Stoughton Cinema Pub in 2007. It has been vacant since, but a "Save The State Theater" group led by Michael Mutascio has been working to raise the funds needed to restore the building to its former glory. Some see the …

NATIONAL GRID-LOCK HEARING: The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is holding a series of hearings on National Grid’s “response” to Hurricane (Tropical Storm) Irene. HIT AND RUN DRIVER: Tico, a 7 Year Old Australian Shepherd, was found on July 7 in a driveway in a residence around Park Street, a mile from his home. Tico had been missing since July 1, last scene near the YMCA in Stoughton. His owner, Kristen Vasconcelos, said he got spooked out by the fireworks and took off. Unfortunately, he was found with a broken hind leg, according to Stoughton Animal Control Officer Mike Gormaley, who was involved in reuniting Kristen and Tico. Kristen told me that in addition to the break, Tico suffered a severe infection, as well as other health problems after getting hit by a car and left there by the driver. We'll pray that Tico rallies and recovers from his injuries. As for the driver, he or she should be …

I think it should be opened for both live performances and films if restored. I have never been inside so I don't know what kind of audience it can hold, but it could hold family movie nights, independent movie nights, local theatre group productions and live bands. If Stoughton buys the train station, they would then have access to all the parking spots the T has and therefore plenty of parking…   more ›
