CHRISTMAS IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR: I've written about it frequently, but I just love the Christmas spirit, and all it brings. Despite the fact that my dad passed away a week before Christmas 31 years ago, I still look forward to the music of Christmas, and the spirit of goodness that goes with it. Just look at what the people of Stoughton have done for Firefighter Jack Hussey, whose family lost everything this past Friday due to a fire at their Abington home. I'm sure residents would help him any time of year, but it just seems that people open their wallets more for their fellow man around Christmas. Look at the food pantries, and how they fill up with needed items, when goodness shows through at the holidays. Charities receive …

Does the lovable children's holiday classic send the wrong message? Tell us your thoughts.
In October, Patch asked readers how they felt about one parent's view that "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" condoned bullying. Specifically, blogger DadCamp wrote that the show sends the wrong message to children because of its "continuous teasing and bullying" It's not the first time a parent has spoken out against a classic children's program with such a claim. Last December, news spread that author and special ed professor George Giuliani said that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was also a program laden with the theme of bullying, considering how much Rudolph was an outsider due to his glowing red nose. Giuliani, as such, wrote a book titled "No More Bullies at the North Pole," which re-tells the story of Rudolph. What do you …

Once inside the children were escorted one by one to meet Santa. Santa was sure to ask if the child was good all year, to which one boy replied, “sometimes.” The list of present requests was diverse. One girl asked for an Elf on the Shelf; one asked for money. Haley Wilson, a first grader at the Hansen Elementary School, asked for a real dog. One boy asked for …
