The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured when his 18-wheeler carrying stainless steel rolled over just before getting on Route 24 northbound in Stoughton Monday afternoon.
A tractor trailer rolled over on the on-ramp to Route 24 northbound from the Route 139 overpass in Stoughton Monday around 3:30 p.m., Captain James Hurley of the Randolph Fire Department said. The 18-wheeler was coming from Stoughton, traveling on Route 139, and then got on the on-ramp to Route 24 north. The vehicle rolled over onto its side about 20-30 feet before the end of the on-ramp, Hurley said. The driver, a male from Pennsylvania, was not injured. With the driver's side of the tractor trailer facing the ground after it rolled over, the driver exited the vehicle by climbing out of the passenger's side door, Hurley said. The following is adapted from a press release from the Massachusetts State Police: Massachusetts State Police from Troop D arrested six more drunk drivers this past Friday and Saturday night on the fourth weekend of the Routes 24/195 patrol surge. Troopers made 12 other arrests and issued five criminal summons. Additionally, troopers wrote 338 citations for motor vehicle violations on those highways during the targeted times this past weekend. The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section also stopped 16 speeding trucks on Route 24 last week and conducted 23 commercial vehicle inspections. The following is from a Massachusetts State Police press release: Massachusetts State Police patrols assigned to saturate Routes 24 and 195 during the overnight hours this past weekend arrested eight drunk drivers, and apprehended two other motorists who had 530 bags of heroin in their car. Another highlight of week 3 of the Patrol Surge was an arrest for operating under the influence (3rd offense) on Route 24 in Berkley. Two other arrests were for OUI 2nd offense. Troopers also issued seven criminal summons and wrote 272 motor vehicle citations. In addition to the OUI arrests and the two above mentioned drug arrests, troopers made two other arrests. Area fire departments responded to two separate, yet simultaneous accidents on the northbound side of Route 24 Saturday evening, August 4, in the Stoughton area. July saw a number of serious and even fatal accidents on this stretch of Route 24, but luckily there were no injuries in either accident Saturday night. Fire departments received calls for both accidents at 8:03 p.m. Both accidents took place between exits 19 and 20 on the northbound side, about 3/4 of a mile apart from one another. The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a single car rollover in Stoughton, adjacent to Boston Interiors, just shy of exit 20. A 20-year old Norton man is cited for leaving the scene of Sunday's fatal on Route 24 where a Needham pedestrian was struck and killed. The accident took place in Randolph on the northbound side of the highway, not far from Stoughton.

Eleven extra troopers will patrol Route 24 and Interstate 195 overnight on Fridays and Saturdays in response to a slew of recent fatal and near-fatal accidents.
In response to a slew of fatal and near-fatal accidents on Route 24 in recent weeks, Massachusetts State Police are beefing up patrols in the area. State Police announced Thursday morning that 11 additional patrols will be on Route 24 and Interstate 195 from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday into Saturday and again on Saturday into Sunday for the remainder of the summer. The extra patrols will be in addition to regular patrols out of the Middleboro and Dartmouth barracks. Police hope the additional patrols will crack down on unsafe drivers.
