State Police: 100 Extra Troopers on the Roads in Southeastern Mass. This Weekend

"Operation Blue Lights" will be back in effect this holiday weekend, with extra patrols on Route 24.

This Memorial Day weekend, "Operation Blue Lights" will be back in effect in southeastern Massachusetts, State Police announced Thursday. According to WPRO News, "State Police will deploy 100 additional troopers across Southeastern Massachusetts over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend. It is an effort to curb accidents and fatalities, and to enforce traffic laws, said Major Anthony Thomas, Commander of Troop D, which patrols all of Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands." The emphasis on Routes 24 and 195 began last summer after a string of fatal accidents on Route 24, including the dealth of Norton 12-year-old Angel Pina in Stoughton and Mansfield teenager Lisa Banat in West Bridgewater. State Police Make Several OUI Arrests on Area Roadways This Thanksgiving Weekend

The Massachusetts State Police increased patrols on Route 24 and ran a sobriety checkpoint in Norfolk County this Thanksgiving weekend, which resulted in a number of OUI arrests, other offenses and hundreds of citations.

Massachusetts State Police Troopers made 20 OUI arrests and issued almost 350 citations on area roadways this holiday weekend - the result of increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 and a sobriety checkpoint in Canton, according to a press release from the MSP. The State Police deployed increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 in southeastern Massachusetts, the evenings of Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 as "part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving on those roads," the MSP stated in a press release. Summer Patrol Surge Results in 90 OUI Arrests; State Police to Continue Crackdown on Route 24

After 90 OUI arrests and more than 1,400 citations during a summer patrol surge, Massachusetts State Police say the will continue to crack down on impaired or erratic operators on Routes 24 and 195.

Massachusetts State Police announced Wednesday morning that while the nearly three-month patrol surge in Southeastern Massachusetts along Routes 24 and 195 may be over, there will continue to be a concerted effort to crack down on unsafe drivers. "Any time an impaired operators are removed from our roadways, our roadways are safer," State Police Troop D Commander Major Anthony Thomas said during a press conference at the Route 24 rest stop in Bridgewater Tuesday morning. The surge, which began in late July after a string of fatal accidents in the area, was focused on achieving just what Thomas described. 10 More Arrested for Drunk Driving During Sixth Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Massachusetts State Police Troopers also caught three drivers going more than 100 m.p.h.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Massachusetts State Police: Massachusetts State Police troopers deployed as part of the Routes 24/195 Patrol Initiative made 10 more drunk driving arrests, including one for a sixth offense, during overnight hours this past weekend. The sixth weekend of the patrol surge also resulted in 14 other arrests, issuance of six criminal summonses and 263 citations for motor vehicle violations. Three operators stopped for speeding were clocked at speeds of 104, 107, and 110 miles per hour. Since the Routes 24/195 Patrol Initiative began on the night of July 27, deployed troopers have made 55 OUI arrests, 56 other arrests, issued 42 criminal summons, and written 1,640 citations for motor vehicle…

Yeah, I was one of those citations. The officer pulled me over and gave me $35.00 citation because I had no back lights. I had no idea, but I understand, and it wasn't a big deal. What made me upset is after he got back into his cruiser and took off to pull someone else over! Leaving me to get out into the heavy traffic by myself, at night, WITH NO LIGHTS, JERK. 10 Drunk Drivers Arrested in Fifth Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Massachusetts State Police Troopers also made eight other arrests, including three for unlicensed operation and one for operating a stolen Cadillac.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Massachusetts State Police: Massachusetts State Police troopers arrested 10 drunk drivers during the overnight hours between Friday and Saturday and Saturday and Sunday this past weekend as part of the ongoing Routes 24 and 195 patrol surge initiative. Troopers also made eight arrests for non-OUI offenses, including three motorists who were driving with suspended licenses and another who was driving a stolen 2011 Cadillac Deville. Six More Drunk Drivers Arrested in Fourth Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Massachusetts State Police Troopers also made 12 other arrests and issued five criminal summons in week 4 of the patrol surge on Routes 24/195.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Massachusetts State Police: Massachusetts State Police from Troop D arrested six more drunk drivers this past Friday and Saturday night on the fourth weekend of the Routes 24/195 patrol surge. Troopers made 12 other arrests and issued five criminal summons. Additionally, troopers wrote 338 citations for motor vehicle violations on those highways during the targeted times this past weekend. The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section also stopped 16 speeding trucks on Route 24 last week and conducted 23 commercial vehicle inspections. 530 Bags of Heroin Found in Car During Third Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Eight drunk drivers and two drug traffickers were arrested in week 3 of the Patrol Surge, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police.

The following is from a Massachusetts State Police press release: Massachusetts State Police patrols assigned to saturate Routes 24 and 195 during the overnight hours this past weekend arrested eight drunk drivers, and apprehended two other motorists who had 530 bags of heroin in their car. Another highlight of week 3 of the Patrol Surge was an arrest for operating under the influence (3rd offense) on Route 24 in Berkley. Two other arrests were for OUI 2nd offense. Troopers also issued seven criminal summons and wrote 272 motor vehicle citations. In addition to the OUI arrests and the two above mentioned drug arrests, troopers made two other arrests. The following is a press release from the Massachusetts State Police: Massachusetts State Police troopers deployed as part of the Routes 24 and 195 patrol surge made 10 drunk driving arrests on or in the vicinity of those two highways this past weekend, the second week of the initiative. Among those arrested were an impaired driver who was going the wrong way, against traffic, on Route 195 in Fairhaven, a driver who struck a cruiser on a detail on Route 195 in Fall River, and a driver who struck another vehicle on Route 24 and tried to flee. First Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195 Nets 9 Drunk Drivers

The Massachusetts State Police announced in a press release on Monday that they arrested nine drunk drivers on Routes 24 and 195 this past Friday and Saturday, the first weekend of a new patrol initiative aimed at cracking down on impaired, distracted, and aggressive drivers. State Police patrols Friday and Saturday also made one other felony arrest and six misdemeanor arrests and issued criminal summons to nine drivers. I work at 330a at logan sat thru tues and the traffic at 230a is heavier than if u were to leave at 400a...I have also seen 4 sets of deer on different occasion cross 24 at different times....kudos to the police for recognizing the dangers at that hour....I hate to say it but lights wouldn't be a bad thing either...you wouldn't believe how dark it is....they only issue I have is they close the …   more ›
