Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is conducting a Major Bottleneck Study for the Route 138 Corridor in Stoughton this year and would like to get as much public input as possible as the OCPC develops the final report. The geographic scope of the study is the Route 138 corridor from Brock Street (at Zachary’s) to the Canton Town Line. The purpose of this study, according to Jed Cornock, Transportation Planner with the Old Colony Planning Council, is to identify the reasons for the bottleneck conditions on the corridor, provide potential short and long term improvements, and identify possible funding sources for those improvements. I did not vote because to me all of the suggestions deserve to have some attention paid to them. Since Stoughton instituted the "no left turn" rule at so many places in Stoughton Square many years ago (with minimal signage to offer alternatives - try explaining to someone coming in to Stoughton on Rte 139 how to get to somewhere on Park St) the traffic on many of the smaller roads/intersections …   more ›

The Old Colony Planning Council has and is conducting a study of Route 138, from Stoughton Square north to the Canton town line, to relieve traffic bottlenecks and to develop alternative solutions to enhance traffic flow and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. I agree. In addition to more traffic and York/Pine becoming a cut through, the intersection got worse because when they altered the plan and put the sidewalk on the north side of York St instead of the south side where it was originally intended, they also narrowed the road and removed room for traffic to form two lanes out onto Route 138.
