Stoughton Driver in Fatal Canton Crash Arraigned From Hospital Bed, Held on Half-Million Dollar Bail Sean Jackman, 24, of Stoughton, the driver in last weekend’s fatal car crash in Canton, was arraigned May 13 on multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide and drunk driving. Jackman was arraigned at Boston Medical Center, where was hospitalized following the single car crash, which killed the lone passenger in the vehicle, Evan Bard, a junior at Curry College. Bard, 20, from Agawam, was killed instantly, officials said. She was a nursing student and was a member of Curry’s cheerleading team. Jackman suffered head injuries and "wore a neck brace and had several cuts on his face at the arraignment," CBS Boston reports. At the request …

Owl Rescued at Cedar Hill Golf Course in Stoughton Stoughton Police, with the help of some volunteers, rescued an owl stuck in netting at the Cedar Hill Golf Course on Park St. in Stoughton on March 30. Police received a call reporting the incident at 9:18 a.m., less than two hours before the start of the Stoughton Community Events Committee's Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which was set to take place at Cedar Hill. Man Arrested For Trying to Break into Stoughton Home Urinates on Floor of Police Station A Mattapan man faces several charges for allegedly attempting to break into a Stoughton home early Saturday morning and for uncooperative behavior once placed under arrest, including urinating in the booking room of the police station. The alleged incident stems from a fight which started in Brockton, Executive Officer Robert Devine said. Michael Sherrod, 35, of Arborcrest Terrace in Mattapan, reportedly followed those involved in the fight back to their home in Stoughton on Rogers Drive. Stoughton Police Catch Pair of Teens Who Robbed 13-Year-Old Boy Two 18-year-old girls allegedly robbed a 13-year-old boy this past Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Monk St. in Stoughton, taking his phone and a gameboy. Some quick work from the Stoughton Police Department led to their arrests and the recovery of the boy’s property a short time later. Tabitha Butterworth, 18, of High St. in Abington, and Haleigh Connelly, 18, of Hudson St. in Northborough, were both charged with unarmed robbery and disorderly conduct. Stoughton Police Investigating a Pair of Armed Robberies Stoughton Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies which took place at Fairy Tales Formals and Rite Aid last week. Police received a call at 3:11 p.m. March 14 reporting a robbery at Fairy Tales Formals, located at 761 Washington St. in the downtown. Police say a man walked into the store and stated that he had a gun, stole a few hundred dollars in cash, and then fled on foot. The day before, March 13, Stoughton Police responded to a robbery at Rite Aid at 638 Washington St. in Shaw's Plaza just before 7 p.m., where a suspect with a knife stole an undisclosed amount of pills from behind the pharmacy, before getting away in a stolen vehicle. Stoughton Selectmen Vote to Move Date of Town Election, Push Back Start of Town Meeting With both the Stoughton annual town election and a special state primary for a U.S. Senate seat scheduled to be held in April, the Stoughton Board of Selectmen took advantage of a state law which allowed the Board to move the date of the town election to the same day as the primary. Originally, the town election was scheduled to be held Tuesday, April 9, 2013, with the primary for the special U.S. Senate election to fill the seat held by now Secretary of State John Kerry just three weeks later on Tuesday, April 30. Drunk Driver Leads Stoughton Police on High Speed Chase, Reportedly Assaults Officer An alleged drunk driver led Stoughton Police on a high speed chase into Brockton early last Sunday morning, according to Executive Officer Robert Devine. Stoughton Police Sgt. John Bonney attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jayson Zimmerman, 29, of Country Club Dr. in Randolph, on Park St. near Alger Way in Stoughton, but Zimmerman kept driving, with the pursuit eventually ending at 339 Arthur Paquin Way in Brockton, about four miles away. Downtown Eyesore to be Rebuilt After years as a public eyesore, the former home of Cheng Du on Washington St. in downtown Stoughton, owned by the Parsons family of Malcolm and Parsons, may soon be rebuilt. The building first suffered a fire a few years ago back in October of 2009, and then the roof collapsed under snow the following winter, in January of 2011. Plans have been submitted to the Stoughton Building Department for a rebuild to the 76,700 square foot property. Synagogues in Stoughton, Brockton, Randolph Looking to Merge A Tri-Congregational Discussion on Regionalization for three local synagogues was held on Thursday, Feb. 14 at Temple Beth Emunah in Brockton. Representatives of Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton and Temple Beth Am in Randolph also attended the meeting, which attracted over 250 interested parties. The plan, still in the discussion phase, is for these three temples to merge into one congregation and use an interim site (Temple Beth Emunah) until a new building is constructed. The recommendation to merge, and begin attending services at the interim location in July of 2014 is not finalized. Each of the temple’s congregations still needs to vote on the plan. The vote is …

Scholarship Established in Memory of Stoughton High Senior David Wade The Stoughton School Committee unanimously approved the David James Wade Memorial Scholarship at its meeting Feb. 12. Wade, a senior at Stoughton High this school year, tragically died following an accidental shooting at his Turnpike Street home Sept. 29, 2012. The scholarship will give 10 of his former classmates financial assistance in continuing their education beyond high school. Each of the 10 scholarships will be for $560, symbolic of Wade's football jersey number (56) this season at SHS.
