ABOUT TOWN: Stoughton Farmers Market to Feature Fresh Produce, Baked Goods, Entertainment

FARMERS MARKET IS COMING! Stoughton Residents and employees have formed a Stoughton Farmers Market Committee and they have spent the last number of months working hard to bring a farmer's market to Stoughton. While the weekly farmer's market won't start until June 2013, they are having a big Community Preview Event, free to the public, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trackside Plaza (adjacent to the Stoughton Train Station.) This Preview Event will have vendors selling produce, cheeses, meats, breads and other baked goods, plus free samples of Crescent Ridge milk. There will also be many other components, including a lots of kids' activities - music, live baby farm animals, Peggy Sewcyk's story hour (at 11 a.m.), …

HEALTHY CHOICES COMING TO STOUGHTON: Back in the summer of 2011, the Stoughton YMCA, along with the whole Stoughton community, was selected by YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) to participate in a program known as Pioneering Healthier Communities (PHC). Co-Chair Karen Hall updated residents and business owners at the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce meeting on June 4 about the PHC initiative. Hall, who is also the Director of the Council on Aging and the Youth Commission in Stoughton, said that four major initiatives are moving forward. The first is a Farmers' Market, which will soon be available to all Stoughton residents, providing easy access to local, affordable, healthy foods, including a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. Stoughton Leaders, YMCA Take Part in Pioneering Healthier Communities Conference

Pioneering Healthier Communities Conference helps local leaders create action plans to transform their community into a model of health.

A press release from the Old Colony YMCA: As obesity and related diseases continue to threaten our nation’s health, a team of community leaders including those from the Old Colony YMCA, traveled to Washington D.C. this week to begin a journey that will make the Stoughton community a healthier place to live.
