Early Morning Fire in Stoughton Leaves 17 Homeless An early morning fire on May 1 at a multi-family home on Park Street in Stoughton displaced 17 people, including an infant, Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff said. While five families were displaced, there were no reports of injuries to civilians or to the crews that responded, according to SFD Captain Doug Campbell. Eight area towns assisted Stoughton in responding to this three-alarm fire. Area businesses and the Stoughton Schools have started collecting donations for the fire victims, who lost most, if not all of their possessions. The location…

Stoughton firefighters were well-prepared for the May 1 fire at 34/36 Park St. since thousands of firefighters statewide have actually fought a computer-based simulated fire at this exact location during training sessions at the MA Fire Academy.
A repairman fixing a basement furnace notices a problem and calls 911. The fire department arrives on scene within minutes and pulls up to see large amounts of dark smoke pouring out of the roof. The fire, which was not even visible at the time of the call, has spread from the basement to the third floor of the multi-unit home in a matter of moments. The “sim-trailer” at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow is, as Captain Don Jasmin calls it, “the …

DROUGHT PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY: After a winter and spring with little precipitation, the Town of Stoughton is preparing for the possibility of a long, hot summer, and with it, the possibility of a drought. Chief Pumping Station Operator Jack Mitchell outlined the Phases of Preparation for the Town of Stoughton if a drought materializes. Selectmen unanimously approved it on May 1 and, as a result, Phase 1 kicks in, which is a “voluntary watering ban.” Mitchell said that the town’s wells were a half foot more shallow than at this point last year. Rainfall totals are 5.5 inches below normal, he said. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MA DEP) and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) have already urged …
